Diablo III sales rise to 14 million

Blizzard confirms dungeon-crawler reaches new sales milestone after Xbox 360 and PS3 launch.

Diablo III has now sold more than 14 million copies since launch in May 2012, Blizzard Entertainment president Mike Morhaime said today during a post-earnings financial call.

This figure, which encompasses all versions of the game, is up from 12 million announced earlier this year.

The milestone was achieved after Diablo III was released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in September. A sales breakdown between PC/Mac and consoles was not provided.

Diablo III is also in development for PlayStation 4, though no release date has been announced yet. The game's auction house mechanic will be removed in March 2014.

The Diablo III: Reaper of Souls expansion, announced during Gamescom in August, is currently in development for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3.

The latest financial call was just a few hours ago and Activision Blizzard announced some interesting things. Here are the highlights:

  • Diablo III has sold over 14 million copies across all platforms
  • Reaper of Souls should be out next year on PC and PS4
  • WoW subs have dropped by 100k
  • Heroes of the Storm will be showcased on BlizzCon
  • In North America, Heart of the Swarm was the #1 PC game for the first 9 months of 2013

Thats really fucking good

One of the most disappointing games this gen. It couldn't come close to Diablo II.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

8 year old games taking the crown liek no ones bitch

Haven't got the game yet, still waiting for the price to drop.  Not worth full price imo, especially after the negative feedback it got from the fans.

Long time Diablo fan. I had a falling out with Blizzard though. I played Diablo 1 and 2 a lot. They were fun games but the end game of Diablo 2 was boring and very repetitive (Baal runs... need I say more). I might pick up Diablo 3 one day for cheap but I'm kind of tired of the button clickers with little strategy.

All versions? Hardly.
It's sold over 12 million copies on PC alone.

It has sold 14 million units to date when you encompass all versions, and it was at 12 million before the PS360 versions came out. So the console ports probably did a little under 2 million.

Am I missing something here? How does that not make sense?

You're right. I interpreted it wrong.

However, that 12 million was before the Consoles launch, you might aswell add another million or so to account for the PC's longer legs, which probably puts the console versions at roughly 1-1.5 million copies sold, thus it pretty much bombed compared to the PC version.

It's incredible how well Blizzard games sell. Since Starcraft, I don't believe they've made a single game that failed to sell 5 million.

According to my Starcraft copy, Starcraft has sold over 12 million copies.

Diablo 2 had sold 4 million within a year of its release, and apparently charted in NPDs top 10 7 years after that. It's almost definitely over 10 million.
Warcraft 3 apparently (http://www.geek.com/games/warcraft-3-sets-sales-record-548891) initially shipped over 4 million, but I can't find anything else. Presumably in a 7-10 million sold range.

World of Warcraft has sold somewhere in the 20-30 million copies range, with all its expansions - possibly barring The Burning Crusade - topping 10 million.

Starcraft 2 sold 3 million in a month, the fastest for any RTS game, meaning it's almost definitely over 5 million by now.

Diablo 3 has sold 14 million.

 A sales history of 12 million > 10+ million >  ~ 8 million, > over 20 million > 5+ million > 14 million is simply amazing.
