Forums - Sales - Final Fantasy XIV Sold 1,450,000 Units up to September the 30th, Has Over 600,000 Paying Subscribers

Today Square Enix released its financial results for the period ended with September the 30th, and gave some information about the state of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

The game shipped about 1.1 million copies at retail, and moved another 350,000 units via digital download up to September the 30th. It’s also mentioned that the number of paying subscibers “broke through” 600,000, surpassing the peak amount attained by its predecessor, Final Fantasy XI.

The wording here is a bit cloudy, because it doesn’t really say by how much the 600,000 mark has been surpassed, but considering that the game has been launched just recently, it’s pretty much understandable.

Now the most critical period approaches, as the first large content update scheduled for December draws near. Will it help that number grow further? The servers sure seem quite crowded, and I can’t remember an evening in which I didn’t find a login queue on Balmung, but we’ll have to see what the future will hold.

I've been curious and wanting to check it out.... But my laptop isn't for gaming and I feel like I should just wait for the ps4 version since the ps3 version obviously doesn't look as nice as ps4/pc. Is this a good game for an mmo entry? The only mmos I have played are like Runescape haha.

Currently own:

  • Ps4

Currently playing: Witcher 3, Walking Dead S1/2, GTA5, Dying Light, Tomb Raider Remaster, MGS Ground Zeros

will return to the game when the PS4 version drops. Im happy to pay sub fees but not during my exam times whenI wont play. From the free trial period I definitely enjoyed it, hopefully it can surpass XI in the long run

Its great and works fine on PS3, i play on both platforms, you may as well get it now as SE are offering a free upgrade to PS4 version when its released.

Those are some decent sales but it will be subs that count. How many subscribers will be there in a month or 3. I personally kind of stopped playing ps3 version due to lack of 'feeling in control' of my tank. I might upgrade to PC in the near future though, i certainly liked the game.

Hoping to get the PS4 version.

The game deserves the sales. Honestly, there hasn't been an MMO since WoW that people can really sink their teeth in for long periods of time. There are still plenty of things that need to be changed and improved, but for the moment, it's one of the most solid MMOs out there despite being so new.

Have it on PC and PS3. Just waiting until the PS4 beta comes so I can play it for free again :^)

Not to bad... pretty good actually.

This made square revise their forecasts. For 6th month period ending September 30th, from 20 million dollar loss to 47 million dollar profit. Because of this game, so it's a success so far.

So far it's beat FFXI's peak subscribers. Which is SE's most profitable game of all time (This undoubtedly cost more to develop). They still have a long way to go, and it would be interesting to know when they've actually made money on this game overall based on doing it twice if they haven't already.
