1) I would like to see your attitude towards using cover if you got in a gunfight in the real world.

2) I wouldn't choose any of these games over UC. I loved the original MGS (one of my top 3 games ever), but starting with the MGS2 the plot got so crazy that I can no longer hold the series in a higher regard.

4) What is annoying about you is that you cannot accept that UC games are incredible games, some of the absolutely best games of the entire generation and that you just don't fancy them. No. You can't accept that and you just have to keep talking crap about them, saying that they are overrated, that ND had to fool people into playing them, etc. You may have your opinion about the games, you may not like them, the problem is that you are the one denying other people their opinion (or rather - forcing your opinion on the whole gaming world) and it just happens so that these "other people" happen to be the majority of gamers counted in millions, while you are the odd one and you should respect it.

For me Uncharted is exactly the type of game I love most. TPP game, story driven, linear, with good characters, a plot set in the real world about discovering secrets and mysteries from the ancient world - everything I expect from the perfect dream game! I can't say a single bad thing about UC so far (haven't played them all yet though). This is the perfect type of game for me though. Uncharted: Golden Abyss happens to be my favourite Vita game as well.

@Impertinence - we are excited, because ND hasn't made a bad game since the original Playstation. Crash has defined the Playstation and had Sony not lost the rights to him (how!? Just how did they do that!?) it would still be the official Sony mascot competing with Mario. Crash kart game was the best competition Mario Kart ever had. They made 4 games this gen. UC1 was the best reason to get a PS3 in the early part of its life, while UC2/UC3/TLoU are all candidates for the game of the generation, pushing the boundaries of their genre.

They have made legendary platformers, great racers and mind-blowing TPP games. No matter what they made, it was always gold. This causes everyone to expect that whatever they make is going to be huge. MS hasn't got a single studio that comes close to it, on the Nintendo side they could be compared to Retro, though obviously they are far more advanced (Retro is just making the jump to HD) and bigger (2 teams on ND). Retro is pretty much a small ND :)

Not really. In fact, I don't really care if you like it or not - like it, then like it. I just keep replying because people are consistently disputing and saying that my opinion is wrong - and an opinion can't be wrong. I agree with the fact that ND can make a quality game, and so far, all of which I've played (all Crash games, some Jaks, UC1-2) have been made with care and (mostly) attention to details, just the latter ones are absolutely not for me for various reasons stated above and all I've said about them is my opinion. But we're obviously on very different sides of the barricade, seeing the rest of your post.

@Hynad: Yeah, because SHMUPS are Action/Adventure games are the same thing! 2/10, try again.

MS have studios like Rare who owns bigger franchises then ND. 343 Studios makes 1 of the greatest FPS game in the world, i wouldnt even want to compare Nintendo games to ND because i can tell you Nintendos third tier franchises are prob in the same bracket as ND games. Im not a fan of niether console but ND seems to be getting this hype about them like there the greatest company in the world. I wouldnt put ND above Nintendo, Valve or Blizzard, and its a toss up if ND are better then Retro and 343.

?? Sales, popularity <> quality.....By that token COD is the best game ever????? ND accolades their last 3 games are unmatched in the industry..........Another strawman, nonsensical argument to deflect. How much mroe will uyou keep changing the goal posts? They have won more idustry awards then any of those studios you mentioned. Only valve are up there with ND of the oens you listed.

They earned their reputation, sounds like someone is a big defensive as Nd is not on their platform of choice.

All those companys i have mention have made massive dents in the awards industry. Doesnt matter who wins more awards, look at World of Warcraft, doesnt win any awards yet its claimed to be the greatest MMO ever to exist and still running. Halo is classed as 1 of the best FPS games to buy on the market. Mario and Zelda and heaps more franchises just own there genras, ND games are the same but i rate ND like i would with 343 and Retro. There not bigger then Valve, Nintendo and Blizzard and thats a fact. Google that one.

Well if the games that good shouldnt the masses be buying it? 5mill is an average sales count for a good game, its not legendary or great. Half Life 1 and 2 sold more then 12mill each, GTA and Cod sell over 10mill easy, Mario Kart and Halo sell over 8mill easy. Blizzard games sell more then 8mill. Games like RE 5 and 6 sell around the same as Uncharted or TLOU so does Tomb Raider.  NG games to me are no bigger then Resident Evil or Tomb Raider.

The last 3 ND games speak for themselves..................uc2 was deserving of it's praise. By far the standard barrer of action adventure games of this gen.

Unlike GTA, people agree largely on UC2.

I can't speak of UC3 or TLoU, but UC2 only speaks of the things I hate in this industry. Linearity, focus on cinematic gameplay, simple characters, simple puzzles, overuse of cover mechanics... I don't mind cinematic - when it's done beyond: two souls time. When it's done with simple characters like in Uncharted, and the focus is not on the character, it's just annoying.

Focus was clearly on the character..Over use of cover??? 1) Your see to use cover how much you want. The game is also a perfect marriage of several genres.2) If yuo don;t like great stories to go with outstanding action, then yes maybe it's not your thing, but the game deserves it's praise. It not being your cup of tea is irrelevant. Doesn;t mean it is Overrated, your opinion is not that important.

3) Simple puzzles is subjective, I know many who didn;t find them simple at all...................

4) Whats annoying is one person thinking their opinion disregards everyone elses.

1) Don't use it? Die. I played on Hard.

2) Metal Gear Solid, DMC, InFamous... not UC

3) Can't open Drake's Journal? Have trouble recognizing shapes? Can't read ingame hints? Deary me.

4) What's annoying is having "industry" and others' opinions just about shoved down my throat. It's my opinion and I stand by it. Don't like it? Ignore it.

1) I would like to see your attitude towards using cover if you got in a gunfight in the real world.

What in the blue hell are you talking about? Those franchises were never ever built with MS. They are used by MS because MS cannot create classics on their own. Granted I am glad they are back, but Rare titles are a shadow of their former selves especially without the supervision they had and ownership of the original owners when they were a secondary to Nintendo. Rare isn't even making Killer Instinct. Microsoft is using the IP, they don't own the soul of Rare because its been gone long ago. It's like Naughty Dog not making Crash Brandicoot while under Sony, its just does not feel the same and causes the franchise to feel less than.

My experience with Uncharted is very limited, but enough that I decided to never buy or play another game in the series ever again. However, this seems like a great place to ask: Am I wrong? Should I play an Uncharted game and why? How is Uncharted different (better) than Assassins Creed?

It sounds limited, hence, comparing it to Assassin's Creed as if it were the same genre. Assassins Creed has more in common with Ryse than it does Uncharted. Uncharted is a third person shooter with parkour elements and Naughty Dog's brand of immersive blending of cinematics to gameplay fidelity mistified some people making them forget they are watching a cutscene during a game. Many games have followed their camera tricks, and gameplay mechanics and even animations. Star Wars 1313,  Tomb Raider, The Last of Us, The Order: 1886, even MGS5 (and more) will take a page out of its book moving from the end of the curent gen into the next gen. Sony and their devs seem to be forming their own style out of the TPS (third person shooter) genre that is quickly becoming the hallmark of Sony quality and you notice it even when you look at third party games. Not to say it didn't get inspiration from elsewhere because obivously it has.

Thank you for your reply, this is more in line with what I was looking for. If you don't mind, I have a couple of follow up cpmments I would like to hear your take on.

First of all, Assassins Creed is an Action Adventure game, so is Uncharted. While I realize Uncharted also has platforming and first person shooter elements I don't think it's completele meaningless to compare the two games.

So, if you will. There are the specific things in Assassins Creed that I do not particularily enjoy:

- An open world to explore, that requires certain missions to be accomplished that ultimately forces the narrative in the desired direction. I particularily dislike the lengthy cutscenes that is fired up with every new mission you accept

- A word filled with 'side quests' that quikly become very tedious. In Assassins Creed IV thyat I am playing now this is stuff like "Free the pirates" and finding hidden chests or whatever. I grow tired of that stuff extremely quickly

- Climbing, hiding, stalking requires virtually no skill. It's all basically done for you. I am hoping that Uncharted at least has a more complex mechanic for climbing buildings etc. From my limited experience it does, but the platforming still seemed extremely easy when I pleayed it.

- A laughable combat system that offers almost no challenge what so ever.

Finally, worst of all:

When you perform certain things, like a sneak assassination or whatever, it is just a matter of hitting a button at the right time and the games plays an 'awesome' animation of whatever action. This is my number one fear. The QTE. I am wondering if Uncharted utilizes the same mechanic.

These are my main gripes with Assassins Creed. I would like to know how Uncharted compares in these areas.

Edit: I would actually like to know if these mechanics are typical of all Naughty Dog games or not, and if not, what type of game is this new game they are teasing likely to be.

No, video games is not a matter of convincing... go play what you like and stop bickering about franchises you don't want to play... If you were really interested in any PS console you would know some of their best franchises... I would bet you have other interests here.

I owned a PS2, which was a massive letdown for me and almost killed my interest in video gaming. For that reason I skipped the PS3 out of spite, my experience with the PlayStation brand is second hand only and seemed to consists of a heavy dose of conematics and fluff. But, that could be because my exposure to the console was through others.

This generation I am somewhat considering buying two consoles, if I do I will pick up either a PS4 or an XBox One. I don't feel great about the XBOx, mainly because of Kinect, but I do feel strognly about Zoo Tycoon. I am now starting to look into what the PlayStation 4 will be about (I had initially ruled it out due to my poor experience with the PS2). But if the console is just going to be a huge mass of story driven cinematic 'epic' experiences I am not going to bother. I don't know for a fact that Uncahrted is that type of game, but it is my impression from my limited experience (and backed up by Xen). I also have the same impression of The Last of Us. If my questions about the franchises from a marquee developer on the PS4 is too much to deal with then I can only say too bad, so sad.

You can just see the list on wikipedia, there will be plenty of games of your like and/or dislike... and seeing you intending to buy a Xbone for Zoo Tycon I sincerely don't think he have a even close taste for games... but still don't think you should be here asking to be convinced to buy a console... buy what you preffer and keep avoiding what you don't have interest... if 20 min of gameplays is enough for you to dislike a genre, maybe 2h of conference from Sony in February was enough for you to decide not having a PS4... so why keep complaining about a dev games that you don't have interest in playing??? It's funny that you use Xen to back up your opinion but don't use the 90%+ that disagree with him to see that you may be wrong

Another frustrating reply.

I don't intend to buy an Xbox One. I don't like the Kinect thing, and Zoo Tycoon is a game I would love to play, but it's not enough to buy a console for. I am in this thread for one reason only, try to find out if there is any point in considering buying a PlayStation 4. The answers here won't be the final decission, but what kind of games I can expect from one of the marquee developers on the system will factor in. Again, Xen is (was at least) the only one who address the mechanics of the game. I don't care about 100 people telling me "Uncharted is awesome", I will listen to the one person who can say "Uncharted is awesome becuase it does this, this and this". Then I can decide if those elements are interesting to me, so far I am not much clearer on what to think. I have a feeling that Uncharted plays similar to Assassins Creed, but ironically that is based on the feedback from people who claim the two games are nothing like eachother.

So again, no information form you, except for the little nugget that Zoo Tycoon is a game worthy of looking down upon if I read your tone correctly. If that is the case, I am guessing there are not many games like it in the PlayStation library? Anyway, that is even further off topic and I don't know if I even care to listen to what people might have to say about that. One last thing though, I have never complained about Naughty Dog outside of the initial statement that the only time I played Uncharted it was for a short time and I didn't like it. Everything else has been an attempt to understand the game and the philosophy of Naughty Dog better. The response has been ranging from mild irritation to butthurt as if I pissed on someones diety (ok, perhaps a slight exaggeration).

If you want to see the differences in UC to any other game a video review will be better than describing and action-adventure game for you... And if your preference is Indie/Low Profile Games Xbone and PS4 will have plenty (WiiU perhaps, I don't follow their news). Your questions seen a lot strange.

They're not the same kind of games. But Uncharted and Gradius V, for example, both use a linear level progression. And you state that you don't like linearity. What is wrong with a game being linear?

Must all games be open world to be fun and compelling? What about Mario games? You enter level, find path to reach the star, finish the level. Go to next level... What's wrong with linear gameplay? Why is it a negative? It's a game style. Just like open world is and other.

Why was your experience with the PS2 so negative?

I was going to try this and fail miserably.  I unfortunately haven't played Assassin's Creed a lot, so I'm not sure I can give a very good comparision to that.  Just so that I can give something I can compare to, what are some games that you've played?

I played Shadow of the Colosuss and was filled with rage to the point where I swore of video games forever. I stuck by it for a couple of years too actually, but the 7th generation won me over again.

Anyways, I've played many games, but not many Action Adventure games. I am not really looking for a list of PlayStation games that would suit my needs as that is way outside what this thread should be about. I am basically looking for information on the mechanics of a typical Naughty Dog game. But for reference since you asked I really like games like Bit.TRIP runner, Punch Out, Tetris, Bullet Hell shooters etc. In other words pattern based gameplay. I don't really need a recommendation on those types of games though, I am asking because I am wondering if I should do my kids a solid and buy a second video game console that they will probably love (since they love everything that is new and shiny) without subjecting myself to buyers remorse rage that compromises my love for video gaming.

PS: I am not intereseted in comments on how reasonable or rational it is to swear off a platform based on one game. I know how many of you will react to that information but that doesn't concern me. I make my desicions for myself, not for a bunch of people on a discussion board.

Will buy for the kids, buy Nintendo... want pattern games, maybe fb games?
