People wanted a Vita when they heard the price of the Vita and 3DS were both going to be $250.  Once Nintendo dropped the 3DS to $179, Vita no longer interested people.  People lost interest in the Vita prior to the launch of the system.

no i meant there was a survey by famitsu beginning of this year with electronics that people wanted to buy. out of the chart (you could answer multiple answers) around 65% of people asked wanted Vita whle i think a phone or a laptopwas second with like 40% of people then WiiU with around 35% and 3DS had like 20%! 

Reality 3DS this year has over 80% marketshare in japan to Vita O.o

That's a different situation.  A) many of those responding likely already had a 3DS or PS3, and 2) we're talking about dedicated gamers who read a gaming magazine--many of them might very well have bought a Vita or Wii U.

These surveys are always whack, the amount of times I saw a US based one with Playstation above Wii and Xbox, then come holidays both would outsell playstation x 3 there.

The thing about making surveys more accurate are the amount of samples. If you have too little samples your poll is inaccurate and therefore can not be used to represent statistical evidence. When you start to have over 10000 samples and maybe even 50000 a survey will start to become more accurate and will converge to the correct statistics.
