Forums - PC - So, my PC is screwed isn't it?

Here is the current issue.

  • My laptop had issues with the charger port. The connection felt loose and sometimes it wouldn't charge the battery.
  • Tech comes to my house and installs a new MoBo.
  • Laptop was giving me errors when windows booted up. "WerFault.exe error, DLLHost error, etc..." sometimes I would get lucky and have have no errors.
  • Starting today the laptop gave me an error while shutting down and just hanged. Can't remember the file name.
  • Starting the laptop now causes a black screen right after the Windows 8 logo.
  • Hit F12, went to legacy boot and checked HDD and it cannot find boot device.
So, did my faulty MoBo just get replaced with an even worse MoBo?

Oh god, I hope you didn't pay for that new Mobo....

if you've done nothing wrong and the computer has hardware malfunctions then it's most likely a design flaw. So yeah, you're prolly fucked.

Your HD has died. If it was your mobo, it wouldn't even show the BIOS screen.

No, it was a free replacement since my device is still under warranty. It is only 10 months old!!

if the mobo is slightly different version than the original this will cause some other hardware issues.

your best bet is to try and reinstall windows. If that doesn't work means other hardware is screwed as well, or the guy didn't install the mobo right.

It may be worth while calling them up first to tell them what is happening after the mobo install. This being an option if you are too lazy to try and reinstall windows and backup your files (i.e. take hdd out and copy it to another hdd)

When I check the CD/DVD as well it gives the same "no boot device" response.

Techs on the phone are sure it might be the new MoBo.

I just hate that I need to wait for another tech to come and install yet another MoBo. Why not just give me a new laptop? Damn thing wasn't cheap.

Nah PC seems fine. It sounds like a hardrive issue.

If i was you I would boot from another drive, save any info you need off the old drive and then reinstall windows and see if that solves the problem.

Same exact MoBo.

I did try and reinstall windows by restoring the computer to factory settings and it never got around to the procedure. Instead I got hit with a black screen after the reboot.

After like 10 shut downs and reboots I am now using my laptop, although I know once I power it down I am fucked again.

Even if the HDD was screwed should I be able to sometimes get the OS to boot up? I ask because right now I am using the laptop.

Ugghhh... getting my Skyrim back to where it is will suck BIG TIME! So much work to get it as pretty as it is now.

hmm it could be anything really. form new mobo to jsut a faulty HDD. but usually when a mobo dies it kills a few components. When that happened to me, I had to replace video card, hdd and ram (this was a pc not laptop).

It may be worth while if you got two ram modules, to pull one out and see how it goes. If it crashes, switch to the other one, if it crashes again then it isn't your ram or both modules are playing up.

TRY THIS:

Right click on Computer icon. go to Manage. Then go to Event Viewer > Windows > and read the system log and application log to see what errors you get on bootup. Note: the system log can take a while to load.

This may give you a clue.
