Not that I can see, but it does indeed happen as you describe as I've just tried it. 

Though I've noticed a couple other odd things in the game today, so it's possible.

You could call it a kind of 2D platformer. Kind of a fusion between Metroid and Zelda's gameplay, and also there's some Tombi/Tomba (an old PS1 game) in it. 

I don't usually like naming random franchises to describe games but I guess it works! ;)

WiiU News for June 23,2014:
1: Hyrule Warrior trailor and news today including zant making an appearance and agitha(ok i guess) being a playable character
2: HW from VGchartz today(if you chose to believe) wii u hold up well and beat the xbo by 4k with its full 1st price drop week. it sold 68k
3: Ubisoft Game Sale!
4: Areal coming to wii u :)
5: possible animal crossing clone coming to wii u?
6: uk charts are in for last week with mk8 holding on with the 4th individual sku while 7th all together
7: nintendo considered existing characters for splatoon
