The system is simply the QoL platform, Iwata said we would see it reveal on 2014, that is simply what we will be the "new Nintendo console", it really isn't a surprise. The 3DS only has 3 years in the market, and the only thing they could reveal is a remodel, and Iwata isn't that stupid to discontinue the Wii U. And if it was really a new handheld or home console, why would Nintendo reveal it in a Direct?

COMG guide to points: 1 point = Raging. 2 points = Beasting. 3 points = Tearing it up. 4 points = Berzerk. 7 points = Rampage. 12 points = Burst. 15 points = god mode. 20+ points = DIVIDING BY ZERO!!! 40+ points = Youkai (originally Pokemon).

-1 = Negabeasting. -5= NegaRampage. -10 = NegaBurst

The New System seems to be even less important. It's a SEO, as in Search Engine Optimized along with the rest of those in the source code. It may be they had forgot to remove that SEO before updating the site and realized it later and thought it might be confusing if they left it in

Maybe it just means they're admitting that some people might see Wii U as Nintendo's new console since it hasn't made much impact in the market so far.
