Honestly, the more I think about it, the less I like it. I just can't see it working properly and not being a thing that would end being in the middle of both worlds with the drawbacks of both of them (size, battery life, screen size, etc).
However, what I can see (at least for their next gen of handhelds and home consoles) is them using the same architecture for both devices. That would give them a lot of advantages going from using scalable engines to work on either handheld or home console games (a time and money saving feature) or just allowing the home console to run the handheld games without a problem, even upscaling them to the TV resolution with its extra power.
They could do it in two ways: 1- You have the handheld and the home console. So you sinch the handheld with the console and it lets you play your handheld games on the TV, with the console upscaling the game to your TV resolution. 2- You have the home console and want to play a handheld game (Pokemon for example) so you just buy the game either retail or download and play it on your TV with your controller.
That way, their handheld is and will still be a handheld and their home console gets a lot more games.
