The lack of momentum from Nintendo being able to hold onto the casual market is whats going to cause the market to shrink this gen. Nintendo aimed for the hardcore and singleplayer experience with the Wii U. This is not a successor to the Wii if it does not use the Wiimote as a primary.

Lol if it wasnt for Ninty this past gen the industry would have shrunk already. PS3 and 360 still have yet to pass PS2 and Xbox. So thanks Ninty for your market expanding Wii this gen. Since Ninty expanded the market this gen it should be up to them to pick up the slack for next gen but even you know that isnt going to happen.

If you were actually thinking you would've noticed the 360 and PS3 sales combined are well over PS2 sales. The Original Xbox didn't sell that much so theres like fifteen million to go. Nintendo expanded the market but not in a good way for themselves in the long run. When Sony joined the videogame market they brought choice formats and multimedia with them expanding the market. When MS joined they brought online which expanded it even further upon multimedia. The reason the Wii caused the market to expand and then shrink is because unlike MS and Sony whose buyers will more than likely stick around for generations, the ones Nintendo attracted dont regularly like to game. Because of the nature of the Wii U it would cause:
1) Further investment in more Wii U controllers.
2) It has to cause them to reinvest in the Wii-mote if they want to recasualize the console so they could enjoy it.
Lets forget about the games because Nintendo decided to step outside of their realm and actually try to get the attention of third parties. As the guys at Bethesda said, Nintendo is too late. They can't just make a console and then contact third parties. This isn't the late eighties and early nineties where they could force third parties to make games for them as they pleased because of the lack of competition.
The ONLY things that comes stock with the Wii U that remotely channels the spirit of the Wii is Nintendoland and the Mii's. That is it. The Wii U's gimmick was the Wiimote and thats what caused the massive media rage to occur. Even with it I think the fanfare still would've shrunk as gimmicks do, but Nintendo made their money and should be proud of it. Now they are in Sony and Microsofts world, where they never again will win.
