Analysis:
Despite the release of multiple big games in October, including the #1 game, Pokemon X/Y, this month's edition barely fell from last month's.
The top spot went to Super Mario 3D World, which more than doubled its points this month, thanks in large part to recently released trailers and screenshots of the game as well as less competition from Pokemon, Wind Waker HD, and Sonic. Because of this, this is the best month yet for the Wii U in this feature, with 4 of the top 7 skus being Wii U exclusives. Nintendo as a publisher also improved their standing this month, with over 340 points being for Nintendo games, thanks in part to their publishing Bravely Default.
Nintendo's other platform, the 3DS, suffered in comparson, with a 40% drop after the release of Pokemon. As Zelda, which singlehandedly brings the 3DS over 50 points, is being released in November, December will probably be the worst month for the 3DS all year. For context, the 3DS has been as high as 208 and as low as 107 points total this year, and it's at 108 for this month. Unless Nintendo announces a major 3DS game during November, this could be the first time in ages the 3DS has fallen below 100. Also worth noting is Bravely Default, which got a confirmed Western release, and Kirby, which was announced this month and could become bigger in future months.
As for PlayStation, let's go from their best to their worst. The PS4 had 276 points this month, its second highest total ever, beaten only by the post E3 July edition. As only about 20% of its points come from launch titles like Killzone, the point drop next month should be minimal. With Square Enix RPG's like Kingdom hearts 3 and Final Fantasy 15, 1st party games like Infamous: Second Son and Driveclub, and multiplatform titles like Watch Dogs and various shooters like Destiny, the PS4 should have a bright future.
With 174 points, the PS3 is obviously behind the PS4 by now. Unlike after E3 though, when the PS3 caught up somewhat, the PS3 will likely never be this well off again. Ratchett & Clank, the PS3's second most anticipated game, is being released in November, as is Gran Turismo 6 in December. Combined with Q1 releases, this can knock the PS3 to below 100 points, especially if no new major games are announced soon. Still, the PS3 is without a doubt the best off 7th generation system.
The VIta is a mixed bag. On one hand, it's still hovering at around 50 points, like it has for months. However, it's only two widely anticipated games are due for release this month. Vita points can easily drop to below 30 next month unless Sony announces something for it. Say what you want about the 3DS, it will be in a much better shape even after Zelda.
The Xbox brand actually had a decent month, by this site's standards. The Xbox brand, combining the 360 and the One, had its second best month of 2013 this month, thanks to a wide number of future releases. Best of all for the platform, although the launch of the One won't be bare, a vast majority of anticipation is for 2014 games, like Halo and Destiny.
The PC gained a bit of ground this month. As per usual, there are many smaller PC games anticipated, but multiplatform games like The Witcher 3, Dark Souls 2, and South Park also made an impact.
