Does the Deluxe Promotion for the wiiU owners not count as this but for free?

https://p.nintendo.net/deluxe/

You basically get 10% eshop credit for every game you purchase in which you can exchange to get ANY games for freefrom the eshop...

So $60 basically = $5.50 in eshop credit and unlike ps+ and Xbox Gold, its free and you can keep the games forever plus its any game so its not just the ones that MS and Sony selects for you...

10% of $60 is $6 and u get to keep the games with Games for Gold

I've gotten over $70 in free games from Club Nintendo using coins (along with other Club Nintendo gear).  I see no point in doing this when I consider Club Nintendo and free online play superior to paying for XBL and PS+.

List of free items obtained through coins since 7/14/09.

How would it not work out for publishers? Obviously, Nintendo would keep track of which games are being rented the most and a portion of the proceeds would be calculated out for each respective publisher. If it's too big a problem, they could put an age limit that any game offered would have to be six months old or something first (or perhaps each individual publisher would decide on the age).

A multitude of publishers have jumped on the Humble Bundle bandwagon, many of which have offered games less than a year old. The publishers are making practically nothing off of these bundles. Rather, it's a PR thing.

From a business standpoint, there is enormous potential here if pieced together properly. Obviously some kinks would need to be worked out, but you're being incredibly shortsighted if you just straight-out dismiss the concepts altogether. The biggest factor that needs to be considered is simply the price point. The rest is cake.

Not all publishers will want their games being played for free and games still selling well enough publishers will never want going free.  What Sony does for PS+ is approach every single publisher individually to make them agree to a PS+ promotion.

Allowing people to pick any game will never happen, even with a time limit on age of game.

This I definitely have to agree with. For them to do a truly digital rental service, every publisher would have to be individually approached for each of their games and they would have to agree to whatever share the platform manufacturer is willing to pay them for putting their game up on that service. This is way too much hassle and probably won't ever happen. PS+ is the best we can or will get in that regard.

And guys, I know Nintendo fans are very defensive about anything Nintendo, but comparing Club Nintendo to PS+ is just sad.

How is it sad that I got over 70 dollars worth of games for free?  Sure the 3 free game selection (each month) isn't as vast or varried as PS+ but to be given coins for purchasing games I would have bought anyways and using those coins to get free games and Nintendo stuff is one hell of a fucking deal to me.   It isn't like we are saying it is just as good.  We are saying it is a good enough service that is offered for free.  Now go make your payment for PS+.

There. That's what I meant, in a comparative sense.

I don't think a paid subscription for games service would really suit Nintendo, as I couldn't imagine Nintendo offering any of their top game for a subscription based service. When they could make more money by selling them through the current retail channels or eshop at near full price for many years to come as is the the case with a lot of Nintendo games. Without the systems top games a subscription services will unlikely be able to gain the necessary subscribers to make it worth while.

I think Nintendo time would better spent in get a proper personal Nintendo digital accounts service up in place and to improve their Virtual console games line up. A lot of people would do unspeakable things for the chance to replay GBA,SNES & N64 on the 3DS and Gamecube on the Wii U :).

Yea but Gold is a paid service though

A service like PS+ sounds cool, but others have mentioned the inherent problems when trying to pair it with Nintendo. I think the current Club Nintendo rewards + Nintendo Network Premium service are pretty good for now, but if they really want to hit it out of the park:

1) Give Nintendo Club coins for third party games too! I believe this is a small but noteworthy reason why Nintendo games outperform third party games on the same console. When a buyer is standing in front of a games rack, he or she should be thinking, "But if I get it for the 3DS or Wii U, I also get free, spectacular swag!" instead of "Why would I get the gimped Wii U version?".

2) Make the Nintendo Network Promotion a permanent thing. I've probably bought more things from the Wii U eShop already than I ever did on Wii. Make it a more prominent part of your marketing to get people in the eShop and looking at your wares, and more willing to spend cash. That free credit goes a long way.
