You might have missed it with the recent DF article but this youtube uploader has great BF4 footage in 1440p, basically no blur or compression like DF and IGNs videos.

Why does it look so freaking bad? It doesn't look next gen at all. It looks like BF3 on a medium PC. It looks just like Bad Company 2 did on my PC back in 2009 (Radeon HD 4850 GPU).

Why 1440p? Did I miss something?

Youtube tends to somewhat butcher HD video quality, so playing it in 1440p makes it look closer to what the actual image quality for 720p/900p would be (they probably just rendered the footage at 1440p).

They both look gorgeous... unless you're myopic to a specific brand.

The Digital Foundry videos seem really fishy now. The difference between the DF footage and this guy's footage is like night and day.

I believe you remember it too good and it wouldn't look so good if you would see it nowadays. Well, I'm not sure about that but I don't think that battlefield 3 looked really so much better when I played it and even with Ultra settings.

Increasing the resolution settings in Youtube also increases the video bit-rate. Even though the native resolution will still be 720p or 900p or whatever and it will only be upscaled to 1440p, the video will be higher quality as it is less compressed.

That might very well be true. Memory could trick me. It has happened to me hundreds of times in the past with older games.
