Forums - Microsoft - Zoo Tycoon for Xbox One is a Timed Retailer Exclusive

If you want the disc version, you'll need to find a Walmart.

 

IGN has confirmed with Microsoft that upcoming Xbox One launch title Zoo Tycoon will only be available in retail at Walmart for a limited time. It will, however, still be available as a digital download from the Xbox Games Store.

"Zoo Tycoon for Xbox One will be exclusively available at Walmart in the U.S. between November 22, 2013 and January 31, 2014," the company told us. "Customers can also purchase Zoo Tycoon for Xbox One at Microsoft Stores and download the title on Xbox Live."

The game is also shipping for current-gen, though the Xbox 360 version is not exclusive to any retailer. "Zoo Tycoon for Xbox 360 will be available at all major retailers," Microsoft clarified.

Well, what a dumb move. Unless Walmart advertise it ... which I can't see happening. Why would MS do this? :S

Things like this really make you scratch your head huh? I've seen stupid shit like this at Target with CDs so I'm assuming it's Walmart who is going for this. As for advertising? It might make it into one of the "rollback with Zoo Tycoon. Now only 39.98. You can now get Macaroni and Cheese for 78 cents" type commercial

Well that's certainly a silly move IMO. Oh well, I was planning on buying digitally only anyways so digital it will be!

One things certain, they'll have to advertise the heck out of it.

It's definitely odd, only other retailer exclusive game I can recall was one of those operation rainfall Nintendo JRPG's when it was localized and I assumed that was part of the localization deal, I wonder what kind of deal this was for.

Going all digital this gen so it does not matter to me. It might be a good collectors item to get though.

Unless it's a stand in the front of the store/entrance then I can't see it being beneficial. Must be something in it for MS tho.
