Forums - Sales - The underperforming-exclusive 'race' to 100k is over

A while ago I saw this comment from Chandler:

(He was asking for a GIF, not figures, but numbers are far more interesting).

Well, we have a winner.  And as you can guess, from me posting this, you know which game won.  With the adjustments to Killzone, it's now over 100k; compared to 60k for Wonderful 101 & 50k for Puppeteer:

So, which do you think lost the most money?  I'd say Puppeteer probably did best compared to budget, but you never can really tell.  Killzone certainly comes from high-budget backgrounds; but it's a handheld rather than home console title.  And Kayima supposedly tweeted that W101's budget was 1.5x Bayonetta.

Which do you think will be the first to reach 200k?  Will Killzone's obvious lead keep it going through the holidays; will Puppeteer get bundled; will Wonderful 101 have Nintendo-legs?

Most likely W101.
KZ:M is a handheld which cost less. and puppeteer is a platformer.

But none are profitable atm I think.

All 3 are great games, still have yet to play 101 but it looks FUN
Killzone deserves so much more, best graphics on handheld and great gameplay.

I think killzone sold better on PSN, in both regions it has about 1000+ ratings which is pretty good for a vita game. Also vgchartz dont track vita games properly, see Fifa etc.

Don't forget that Vita games sell a majority digitally. Hopefully Killzone Mercenary has good legs as it's a great game.

I just feel sad for Puppeteer and The Wonderful 101. It's a shame. We ask for innovative titles that break new ground or use the console in new ways, yet nobody buys them. It's so sad... D:

Currently own:

  • Ps4

Currently playing: Witcher 3, Walking Dead S1/2, GTA5, Dying Light, Tomb Raider Remaster, MGS Ground Zeros

W101 had to cost a lot. You only need to look at the game to see that. All that animation, all those beautiful new assets, all the voice-work.

I'm sure KZ:M cost a lot, as well, though if I'm not mistaken, it borrowed a ton from KZ3.

Puppeteer is 2D and relatively short. I'm betting it didn't cost a ton. They also probably spent like $5 on advertising.

I have no idea what kind of digital sales W101 might have done but I bet KZ:M and Puppeteer did relatively well in that regard. I really, really hope that all three games get a second push over the holidays. They all deserve it, in my opinion. It's discouraging to see all the sales go to just a few titles while some very deserving games get left out.

Actually I thought Puppeteer was very long for a 2D platformer. And all 20 or so levels are pretty unique so there are a lot of assets in the game. It still probably didn't have a huge budget but it was also sold at a lower price.

I'm glad they'll bundle it with the PS3 in Japan. Maybe Nintendo should do the same with W101.

Killzone Shawdow fall's FW sales>>Killzone Mercenary LT

The comparision is weird because in the first place Killzone have a lot of sales from digital... I won't be surprised if it already crossed 200k.

Is that's the case, it's better for VGChartz to find a way to track digital sales or the site will become irrelevant. Payday 2 is an example: good digital sales, bad retail. If you look at VGChartz, that game looks like a flop when it actually wasn't that bad. For PC sales, VGChartz already doesn't matter anymore.
