Forums - Sony - Why Drive CLub being Delayed isn't a big deal (America)

It will probably not hurt the PS4 sales in the short run, but it will definitely hurt DC. Also, Sony are not building a particularly strong brand just now, and I hope they step it up a notch...

Yeah, it launched in Japan only in 2006...lulz.

Early 2007 in NA and Europe. Was the most popular title when PS3 launched in Europe, or about the same as Resistance maybe.

Just pointing out that most of its numbers came out of the holiday so there isnt much to worry there either.

Yeah, it's really not a big deal sales-wise. For gamers, it's a drag for PS4 buyers who were looking forward to it, but a couple months more isn't that long to wait.

well if PS4 sells out like its expected too, this might actually be better for the PS4, as it can help push sales even further in 2014 when it releases and keep up momentum, however, if the PS4 doesnt sell it, drive club then could have helped it too.

Well since they are giving it away free with PS+ its not like its gunna sell much at all.

As I stated in other threads, and in agreement with the sentiment of this thread, Driveclub being pushed back to "early 2014" is not really going to hurt Sony. The game was barely on the radar as far as preorders were concerned though I suspect a fair portion of that had to do with the free PS+ Edition. Though where I differ with the OP is how it will affect Driveclub itself.

For starters, I don't think Driveclub was ever going to be in a position this coming holiday season to compete. Look at the games launching; Assassin's Creed, Battlefield, Call of Duty, FIFA, Madden, Need for Speed, and even Sony's own Killzone which was already hogging the spotlight. It's very hot competition this season already. I suspect that some X1 exclusives will find themselves having similar issues thanks to very popular and typically high-selling franchises releasing all at the same time. So releasing at a later date, even outside of the holidays, may prove to save Driveclub from being crushed under the weight of so many high-profile games.

It also depends on how the finished product looks. This may actually help Driveclub in the long run because if the game was delayed due to Evolution Studios not liking how it was going to be for its initial release that tells me that there is a good chance the consumers would have reacted negatively to it as well. If this delay allows them to get the game up to the 60fps mark like they've been shooting for as well as maybe deliver on some content that they may have had to scrap, I think delaying would be considered for the best. It could be the difference between releasing a game that gets negative reactions or positive ones. Even though it will be outside of the holiday sales surge it will still be in the launch window. A time when gamers are very hungry for new experiences.

As far as Sony's retail exclusive lineup for 2014, I don't think it will need much help. About 8 first-party published games for 2014 have yet to be revealed, some of the Japanese third-party exclusives will certainly make their way West, and in the meantime there will be loads of Indie titles to choose from and some that have turned heads like Rime and Shadow of the Beast. I do have a feeling we will get word on a couple PS4 games coming next year at the VGA's this December.

Yeah it really will not affect it to much. My only problem with it is that it is only one freaking month away from launch and now they decide that Watch Dogs and Driveclub will not come out for launch. All for the best in terms of sales though for the post holiday crash.

It's better off being delayed because it would've gotten lost in the shuffle during launch. Better to spread some releases out over the spring to alleviate any potential software droughts.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Yeah I mentioned the pre-order chart in a thread the other day. I just never saw DC as a system seller and what people are saying about it being for the best might be right because it gives the PS4 a wider berth of releases and it might keep DC form getting lost among the other games coming out during the holidays.

To be honest with the Watchdogs' delay I was looking at Driveclub as the replacement. Now that both are Spring '14 I probably wont bother with Driveclub as i'll be busy with inFamous and the like. I hate to say it, but the Driveclub delay will probably hurt its' sales more than help it, better product or not.

Do you really play that few games monthly that you won't be able to squeeze Drive Club in your spring gaming schedule?

Just askin out of curiousity, wonderin how people plan their future allotments of time and resources for gaming.
