Forums - Gaming - Watch Dogs and The Crew delayed until Spring 2014

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! wa waaaaaa!

And I just preorded an Xbox One.

Well, frumph, I really wanted to play Watch Dogs. Guess I'll just have to see if I can get a discount GTAV.

I think there will be more delays too. I can not imagine Titanfall, The Crew, Watchdogs, Destiny, Disney's Fantasia, Elder Scrolls Online, new Final Fantasy, and a few others all coming out at the same time in the spring.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Um Titanfall isnt due to end of April. Thats why its not that high in preorders yet.

Titanfall will Destroy Watchdogs. The media are all over Titanfall like its the best thing sincr sliced bread. You can see it coming a mile off. Watchdogs only has 7,000 more preorders than DR3. So what makes you think Watchdogs is gonna sell loads?

Key word there being "media." And by "Titanfall will destroy Watch Dogs," I hope you're limiting yourself to just the XBO port of WD. Titanfall is an online-only title exclusive to XBO (for next-gen anyway), which may negatively affect its commercial viability. I'm not saying it won't do well, but since most console gamers don't play online (only about a third of 360 owners have XBL Gold), that by itself could prove to be a huge limiting factor. Meanwhile, Watch Dogs is a multiplatform title with a strong single-player component (like most games in its genre) whose PS4 port looks to be trending far ahead of the XBO port. For example, on Amazon, the XBO version of WD has been consistently trailing far behind the PS4 version. And since you're using VGC's preorder numbers as an accurate tally, Watch Dogs is already sitting at nearly 231k for both next-gen versions combined. Of those, nearly 144k are for the PS4 version, while only 87k are for the XBO version. While the XBO version of Watch Dogs isn't that far ahead of the XBO's exclusives in VGC's list, when combined with the PS4 version it completely outclasses any system exclusive except for Killzone.

Considering the PS4 and XBO will both have relatively small user bases (the 360 and PS3 both had under 4 million units sold by the June 30 following their launches), both Titanfall and Watch Dogs will likely have relatively modest launches, starting off with perhaps a few hundred thousand copies each on their first week. By the end of 2014, I think Titanfall will probably compare favorably to Gears of War, which sold about 3 million copies in 2006; it's coming out in spring while Gears had a November launch, which gives it a few extra months of sales before the 2014 holidays, but again the fact that it's online-only could hamper sales by a non-trivial degree; it might have very weak legs, with sales dropping off rapidly after 2014. It is an FPS, though, which typically do very well on Xbox systems. I suspect Watch Dogs will do well, perhaps performing similarly to the next-gen versions of Assassin's Creed IV if not more so due to the fact that it's starting off on a user base that will likely be around 10 million total by the end of June. It also has the advantage of being multiplatform. I think by the end of 2014 Titanfall will be somewhere between 3 to 4 million copies, with Watch Dogs about a million ahead of that. Titanfall will probably do better than either port of Watch Dogs, but collectively all versions of Watch Dogs will likely be the sales leader.

Oh yeah I mean Xbox One. COD sells becuse of its multiplayer, not its singleplayer. Titanfall will be this gens new COD online. It will be the new phenomenon. I fully expect 95 - 98 metacritic on this one.

So that was the Watch Dogs news I missed.

That's bad. So now it starts, 0 games ready at launch confirmed!

No seriously, that's bad. Mid console cycle no-one would give a fuck, launch and end... yeah.

That's good, was never really confident it would be a Next Gen game on the PS4. Hopefully they have time to make it even better (enhanced graphics, etc..). Also think GTA 5 has something to do with this delay.

I suppose you're right. More than marketing, it's a punt in the right direction, away from competition and not towards it. Only thing that we really know of hanging out in Q2 next year that's big (on any platform) is likely to be Mario Kart. Infamous to a lesser degree.

Infamous is scheduled to come out in Feb, 2014. Far before the spring big hitters. Unless there is a delay of course.
