And why this particular announcement will hurt Zelda Wii U sales?

this wont, but if they continue the quality of their marketing with this game then they will. Nintendo's marketing lately has been piss poor, can you deny that?

Your first comment says otherwise. And what does this have to do with marketing anyway?

But yeah Nintendo's current marketing sucks, I never denied that.

my first comment says that nintendo is continuing their bad marketing stategy for their games. @bolded. the way a game is confirmed is all about marketing.

the way a game is announced has a lot to do with marketing, instead of announcing this with a bang they go out and do it like this. can you honestly say this is a smart move?

Wait... so... This won't hurt them... but it will hurt them?  What?

this paritcular misstep wont, if they continue down the path of their bad marketing, it will. not a very hard concept to understand.

are nintendo idiots? do they have no understanding what so ever on how to market their games any more? why did they just saw the next zelda will be at E3? surprise people, let them speculate, not tell them what they are going to see. this will probably be their biggest announcement next year, as smash bros, mario kart and 3d mario are all already announced. they did the same thing this E3 and it killed off a lot of the hype for their E3 show, people simply knew what they were gonna see. they knew smash bros, mario kart and 3d mario were going to be announced.

nintendo when you want to announce a big game, give it the announcement it deserves, dont just say when you will show it 7 or 8 months before. they are literally shooting them selfs in the foot here.

Any informed gamer with a functioning brain knows that if the next Zelda hasn't been revealed by then, it means that it will be revealed at E3. Like another poster said, what change is that we shouldn't expect anything about the next Zelda in the Nintendo Directs aired before E3. Unlike what you are reasoning, I am actually now more hyped for E3 because I was expecting the Zelda reveal to come in an earlier Nintendo Direct.

Nintendo's marketing is bad but it doesn't mean we shouldn't use logic when applying that belief to daily news.

and from nintendo's stand point thats just plain stupid. they basically told everyone who want to know about the next zelda game that their is no reason to watch or nintendo directs if you just want to know about zelda. instead of enticing zelda fans to watch these nintendo directs (that nintendo has been trying to get more traction to) they are telling them there is no need to watch it. any Nintendo direct has the possibility of announcing a new big game, for those aniticpating zelda, nintendo just said there is no need to watch them. how is that good marketing? beats me.

Well, I think there is still room for a lot of surprises, saying there will be more info at the next E3 is nothing really, the info could be: !Well, it is coming someday" or the full reveal. Nintendo has MK8, Mario and DK in the works also, so, they probably have their hands full at the moment.

I already answered that a few pages ago. It doesn't matter how you reveal it, what comes after is the important part. You could make an exclusive game reveal here on VGC, only the people here will know about it, if the next day you do a commercial during the Super Bowl, then everyone in the U.S will know about the game. So again, how you reveal a game have nothing to do with marketing and it's sales.

At any rate, this thread isn't about Nintendo marketing. And you only brought that up because your first comment didn't made any sense.

Edit: the only possible way you could consider a reveal marketing is if, and only IF, the game you just revealed releases the same week or something like that.

announcement = the first time they show something about the game. plus, he didn't say E3 will be the first time we see it, he can lie.

sometimes i just love your posts. if he was lying, why would he say this in the first place?

Miyamoto said there wouldn't be a 3DS redesign one month before XL was announced.

Epona's in TP. As is nightime exploration. I gave the young and adult forms as example so people knew what I meant. Connected Overworld so it's not like SS. Limitless pouch size so I can actually bloody use the medals I collect, instead of my pouch being taken up by heart, air, stamina potions. Make that shit separate .

I get it, but to me what made these games special were the NEW things they brought to the table, repeating stuff is not the way to go, it catches the nostalgia retro gamers, but it is not really stuff of greatness, is it? I say: look at the first Zelda as inspiration of WHAT WAS NEW and magical about it, and then dare once more, not repeat, DARE.

Fans always do this, they get confused about what made they love something at the first place, then the creators start to copy themselves and reduce their once amazing creations to a sad self imitation, like ALIEN RESSURRECTION or Star Wars Episode 1.

@WagnerPaiva

I understand that to innovate, they need to introduce new or evolved game mechanics whether it be through the world itself or link's alternate mode of transport. BUT, there are things that they can achieve this whilst improving on the overall game. For example make hand holding optional. Best for casual and core users. Also no restrictions on when and where to go. Let the user choose (Within reason).

After the excellent TP, SS felt extremely lacking in several areas. Exploration being one, One ONE shop and town in the entire game? More treasure to collect that I CAN'T fit in my pouch? If I had been unaware that SS came out 5 years after TP, I would of thought that TP was the new evolved 2011 release and SS was the launch title . (Forgetting WM+ Here)
