Forums - Gaming - Final Fantasy 7 for iOS and Android will take 'years' due to file size

the easy way is just to compress the FMV's like they were on PSX.

The reason why the PC ones was bigger because they doubled the resolution of the FMV's. And probably uncompressed textures that still looked bad.
The PSN version was only 1.2 gb. if I remember.

The textures and mods that made it like 8gb was done by fans.

That said, people always translate tweets or whatever wrong. So what he actually said probably (hopefully) makes more sense.

Are people just not vocal to Square Enix that this just isn't something they want or does Square Enix just not care?

Maybe a petition would actually be worth it right now. It usually never works but it could in this case.

Lets see, SE has been releasing a lot of ports on iOS the last few years.. Starting from.. Secret of Mana? I think.. You really think they wouldn't keep releasing new ports if it didn't earn them money? When the mobile market is bigger then handheld and console in Japan your voice really doesn't matter.. The market is there and so are probably the sales

Final Fantasy 7 has sold over nine million.  Most people that like Final Fantasy started at Final Fantasy 7, and it seems there are too many of those people that started at Final Fantasy 7 and just refuse to play any of the older games, remakes or not.  You know, the new "hardcore gamer," the ones that only purchase the newest games because otherwise it sucks.  I have some friends who are like this unfortunately.

A true Final Fantasy 7 remake will probably sell in the millions.  An iOS port will probably be less than two million at most.

Not sure about IOS but there few games well over 2gb on android. The bard's tale HD was over 3gb. space shouldn't be issue on phones, most phones have more space than handhelds consoles.

There are many iOS games who need over 1 GB or even 2 GB space on the device, so it's not an issue.
With modern video codecs they can shrink the video files to much smaller sizes without losing quality.

Or they can split the game in three smaller apps and sell them apart... for more profit.

Oh... **** off with iOS. Remake it to a portable or home console.

Dont give them any ideas :P  I can see it now FFVII CD 1-4 for 8.99 each or something equally ridiculous.

...then dont do it. Really if a person hasnt played it by now, there are many platforms to play it on. Hell every PS device can play it.

And so they should. I can play Final Fantasy 7 - 9 on my PSP or Vita just fine.

Let them pay on iOS and Android! ;)

Well, duh. Rework everything and use sprites. Make us pay for overpriced Weapons battles and Materia. You have a gold mine here SE.

I can feel the love..
