You're conveniently using that statement in isolation.  The fact is that the industry's big games (save for Guitar Hero and Rockband) had completely moved on to the 7th gen.  The PS2 was the undisputed leader of its generation; yet, was it getting Modern Warfare in 2007?  Bioshock?  Assassin's Creed?  Mass Effect?

The industry had moved on in the PS2's 7th year (to say nothing of its 8th year), and that's a fact.  Stop arguing for the sake of arguing.

Whats your point? Bioshock, assassins creed, mass effect and modern warfare (sorta) are all new IPs from this generation. Thats a piss poor argument and all together irrelevant

@Bolded:  Nope.

The industry was no longer focused on the 6th gen consoles at that time.  Developers and publishers were focusing on new hardware.  Perhaps you should follow discussions before posting...

My entire point in my discussion with Kane is that using the "WiiU losing to 8 year old hardware" point is a poor excuse because that 8 year old hardware is still being heavily supported, is now at mass market prices, and has an extensive library of games.  There's a reason it has taken so long before the PS360 have had successors released.  How is this difficult to understand?

Ergo, it's not surprising that a new console (WiiU) being the most expensive with the smallest library would be having a hard time competing with said hardware.

The only exception is a complete market disruptor like the Wii, which the WiiU is not.

The Ps4 and X1 will beat Ps3 and 360. So it's only an exception when it's Nintendo? And of course developers are releasing games still... its that or go bankrupt twiddling their thumbs... seriously, your argument makes as much sense as if I said, Ps1 didnt get: Okami, Guitar Hero II, Final Fantasy XII, Bully, or GoW2

I'll only quote the bolded because the rest is too surreal. ps4 and xone will most probably be outsold by ps3 and 360 during a good chunk of 2014. and every console not named wii (don't know about ps2), was outsold by it's predecessor for a while.

I totally agree with you. Most people didn't even care for a 3ds near release day, and now look at it's success

Ps3 will not get 5mil sales in 4 months. Ps4 will. The Ps4 will have 8mil by its 1 year anniversary... That is definitly good enough to outsell the Ps3. Unless something happens to the Ps3 like a price cut that is.

I agree it PS3 will outsell PS4 and Xbox One (probably) as sales will drop to below 100k. They'll all be in the 60 - 100k range tho, PS4 could do much better also, you're vastly underestimating it. Somehow it'll do worse than PS3 despite being $200 cheaper, cheaper than the real competition, launching alongside ect.

Xbox One may suffer, I can't think of a reason PS4 will tho.

1. MGS5, Infamous, Killzone, indies, watch dogs, AC black flag, and others within a year.... these are just as good of new experiences as Ps2 had from the Ps1. Ps3 had from the Ps2. gamecube had from N64. N64 had from SNES. SNES had from NES.... seriously, the "innovation" angle is really over exaggerated and a newer system will do just fine. Especially when studios make the inevitable switch to focusing solely on the new hardware.

2. WTF does this even mean?

3. as did the ps2 get in 2006-2009

4... okay i'm looking at it... your point?

Nah. It'll be slow going. Do people want those badly enough to upgrade? Especially when they can get it on hardware they already own?
Will the graphics really matter to them? They wont be entirely new games either.

They wanted it badly enough with PS360, despite $599 and RROD.

Obviously people want the Ps4 badly or else it wouldn't be over a million pre-orders months ago. If someone is interested in updating their system and is interested in the game of course those games would be selling points.

Look, just because the Wii U is in poor shape doesn't mean the whole market is (as is evident in Ps3,360, gta5 sales). The Ps4 will sell and it will sell at a good pace for the first year.
