Forums - Sony - Report: Chinese students forced to manufacture PS4 at Foxconn plant

as long as the economy is global and social systems (if countries ever have such a concept) are local, you will never solve the problem that somwhere in world poor people have to work for rich people under miserable conditions because they have no choice. My only hope is the one day the oppressed majority will stop fighting eachother and instead organize globally to oppose against the rich decicion making minority.

To be fair, I don't think this is actually that bad

It is fairly standard practice to make engineering students work in industry to get experience during their degree course. The university has just done a poor job at finding experience for their students.... And this is China, a lack of choice is not uncommon

They're not all engineering students, some of them have different professions in mind.  As it states in the article, one is in business finance (i.e. accounting).

I agree, interns are often put into busy work, but busy work typically has something to do with what they're doing.  My niece and nephew both did internships for engineering.  Neither of them did menial tasks such as assembly line work.  Both of them filled important roles within the organization.  Though my niece's internship was a summer role, but my nephew was hired out of his.

so a 3rd party company whose contracted to put the PS4's together is engaging in practices in which it has for years?

oh and by the way, Foxconn is also assembling the XB1.. http://www.geek.com/games/foxconn-is-already-assembling-the-new-xbox-for-microsoft-1555877/

so are you trying to imply that Foxconn is only using these college students on PS4's and not the XB1 aswell?

That article is inaccurate.  But great job posting it from REDDIT.

Flextronic is actually assembling 90% of the Xbox One's, with Foxconn getting 10%.

The article you linked in your comment is inaccurate for a number of reasons, but the biggest one of all is that Microsoft didn't release to manufacturing the Xbox One until August.

thanx for more clarification, i just remembered hearing that foxconn was in on making them, and googled "foxconn making xbox"   and that was the top result.

Was it on reddit? i dont use it and the only time im ever on there is when someone links a discussion that may or may not be a juicy read.

Yep.  Someone tried to use it to suggest that the Xbox One was being manufactured in the same regard by Foxconn.  They are not.

It's possible, at the time of the Geek.com article, that Foxconn was working on development kits, but I'm guessing that after that article Microsoft decided Flextronic probably would keep quiet about it.

There's no mention of the PS4 in the original story...

I'm pretty sure most devices are made this way, Its how the big companies operate. Otherwise we would be paying alot more for our products.

To zero out ps4 in the title is kinda sad when you even mention wiiu in the post.

On the other note. Nothing like having no human rights in a communist country. And this is the country on the rise in the world folks, more tyranny to follow.

Lets put it into perspective.

When the comedian who Microsoft contracted for their event supposably went on his thing he was tied to Microsoft even though he has worked with many companies before and really wasn't working for Microsoft. Because Microsoft just happened to use him for their event it is a Microsoft thing.

Sony is being singled out because their products are the ones being produced atm.

No different when Apple was singled out when the Iphones were being made.

I hope they were taught to correctly apply thermal paste at that college.

Bitch please, I pay for my college to work 14 hours a day + 24 hours and dont receive a penny, never complained cause I'm learning on it...

The Bitch is back! And better then ever! #BritneyReturns

SONY Bring them BACK for PS4 and VITA!

The Chinese are shameless.

Exploiting unpaid interns used to be an American Innovation™, but they just can't stop ripping everybody else off.
