GamePad High Capacity Battery Available Now in Europe

Posted Wed 9th Oct 2013 08:30 by Thomas Whitehead

Annoying red light begone!

Comes with a 1-3 week delivery wait in the UK

The 3DS — particularly the standard model — and the Wii U GamePad have something in common: a blinking red light of doom. Nintendo's efforts to maintain manageable prices leads to various compromises, which is common with much technology, and battery life is a common theme of complaint for gamers. Whichever you're playing, it's worth being near a power supply or splashing out on alternative batteries if you're gearing up for long playing sessions.

Of course there are third-party alternatives, but Nintendo has — as promised — released an official and meatier battery in Europe, which reportedly allows up to eight hours of playtime. It's available now on Amazon (£24.99 in the UK and €35.89 in Germany); British gamers have a 1-3 week wait for delivery, while customers in Germany, for example, have 3-4 days to wait before it's available for despatch. Nintendo is listed as the distributor, and with wait times like that may be ordering stock depending on demand. The previously announced Remote Rapid Charging Set is also available to order.

Thankfully Nintendo made it easy to get into the GamePad itself to change the battery, unlike the bad old days of odd proprietary casing on consoles such as the Nintendo 64 — nothing that a screwdriver, a hammer and a lot of violence couldn't solve. We assume this official GamePad battery will come to North America, but it's not available yet.

It would be nice if they put these batteries in the gamepad to begin with or from now on but I suppose they gotta make some money somehow.

I need that thing... The battery of the Wii U gamepad is ridiculous...

"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"

I never play my Wii U anywhere where electrical sockets aren't readily available, so the battery life is neglible to me. If they ever made a car charger for the Wii U and I took it on road trips, that would be a different story.

So this guy doubles capacity. Somewhere there's a mythical Nyko battery that's supposed to triple life so you can play half the day, but I haven't seen it anywhere besides Amazon and user reviews suggest the craftsmanship is shoddy.

"The worst part about these reviews is they are [subjective]--and their scores often depend on how drunk you got the media at a Street Fighter event."  — Mona Hamilton, Capcom Senior VP of Marketing

costs 3 dollars to produce sells for 30.

Seriously this is a bullshit move like Sega/Nintendo/Sony and MS "forcing" people to buy proprietary component cables back in the day when they included crap cables that cost the same to produce.....   Instead of making good hardware that sells they make crippled hardware and sell the FIX later  rofl (Motion+ Says hello!)

Thank god WiiU came with a HDMI cable. I remember Iwata unboxing the WiiU and saying that the HDMI cable costs 15? dollars rofl 10m on ebay cost 3dollars.

Well
Not going to buy it because some chinese company will most likely sell this for 10 bucks (which would still be to much but still better than 30)

P.S. my laptop has a 90000 mAh battery that costs 100 (even this is way to much but nvm) so why exactly does a 2500mAh battery cost 30? All smartphone batteries sell for 5 bucks...

I wish there was something to extend the range of the Gamepad. It doesn't even make it onto the deck, 8ft away from the console.

Yeah, I walked about that far from my Wii U, picture cut out.  Makes off screen play useless.  The battery life is autrocious too.  I can't even get half way through a dungeon in Zelda with out the battery dying.  Still, this battery's going to be useful.

This technology is already out, a lot of laptop companies have AC Adapters so you can continue to use your device in the car, look around.

It's expensive but I'm totally going to get one. I don't mind the cord since I have a socket right behind the sofa but the heat produced from charging is a minor annoyance.
