Maybe people was not expecting it to do that in 4 weeks, but I think everybody knew it would surpass easily 2.8 mil by the end of the year. If would be difficult to understand if a brand new MH did half of the last "new" MH.

I agree with the other poeple who said that Capcom´s estimate was on the modest side of things.
But that doesn´t negate the fact the MH4 is a great success, it will be interesting to see how the sales will go from now on with severe stock shortages , a holiday comming up and maybe the increase thru Pokemon!

oh yes! Your correct, a good amount believed it do it around Dec. Its just crazy how it got 3 months to sell just for this year and holiday boost! Here is predictions from way earlier in the year.
