Forums - Politics - Should Isreal break ties with U.S over who we get along with?

Because the favor of the United States is the only thing keeping Israel from getting blasted in the ass by the UN and the ICC over what they're doing in Palestine. Because if it weren't for America's friendship, Palestine would be a sovereign state by now?

They need us one hell of a lot more than we need them, and frankly we should play that for all it's worth to force them to move towards a two-state solution.

I think one of those might be true... but not the other.

ICC is one thing, the UN actually doing something within a country that's more then cerimonial... unlikely.

Besides, if the Israelis even saw a hint of force being pushed towards a Palestine state they'd probably just round up everyone and mass expel from anywhere they want, if not the whole country, in a horiffic way if needed.  No way the UN actually does anything about that.

Sanctions sound nice, until you realize just how important Israeli buisnesses are to the western world.

Cutting off IBM?  Not going to happen.

Without US support, the UN would do pretty much what it does now, and in every other situation of intrest.

Sit by impotently while making pointless statements.

Wrong United Country.   Israel exists pretty much because of the UK.

Palestine would easily win sovereign status by the UN if America withdrew her veto, and that would change everything, making Israel's conduct in the occupied territories into Acts of War.

The EU has already moved to ban support for businesses operating in the settlements (though yes, Israeli businesses as a whole are much harder to ignore)

I'm unsure how that particularly would change everything though.  In theory?  Maybe

Additionally, call me skeptical, but i feel like if the US pulled their veto, I feel like France would step in and do the same.

That is assuming that a US void.  Or hell, if they didn't, it wouldn'tbe a stretch to see Russia or China suddenly take up Israel's side for much the same reason the US supports them.

I mean lets be honest here, Russia is more or less an expert at grabbing lands  disputed between two parties.  Half the time when the side they support isn't even a country.

Israel is just too valuable to go without an ally... well as long as nations want to meddle in each others affairs in anycase.

In case I was not clear, I mean because of Obama's talks with Iran.

Having diplomatic relations with countries who are trying to act tough and hostile towards you is what a President is supposed to do. Whether we're talking North Korea, or Iran, or whoever. That is why diplomats and diplomacy exists in a modern and allegedly civilized world.

Also, Israel would be 100% fucked if the US severed ties with them. They'd sure as shit miss that, what is it? 1 billion a year or whatever in aid that we give them? The only reason Israel acts so tough against (all of) their neighbors, is because of their connection to us. They are literally the big mouthed little runt who talks shit to everyone because they're friends with the biggest kid in school.

Yeah, the US and Israel should break their ties. Let's see how those shit talkers will fare with the rest of the middle east all by their own god damn selves over the fact that they can't can't get over their own fairy tales about how Jerusalem is their home land.

Israel appears to be some infestation towards their neighboring countries and plus they've being getting pretty annoying lately.

Well if israel is going to make such a fuss maybe we should!

We start by not giving them anymore foreign aid. :P

It seems that alot of us aren't too happy about the relationship with isreal.

Israel breaking ties with the US? Only if they want every Arab nation going to war with them again.
