ICC is one thing, the UN actually doing something within a country that's more then cerimonial... unlikely. Besides, if the Israelis even saw a hint of force being pushed towards a Palestine state they'd probably just round up everyone and mass expel from anywhere they want, if not the whole country, in a horiffic way if needed. No way the UN actually does anything about that. Sanctions sound nice, until you realize just how important Israeli buisnesses are to the western world. Cutting off IBM? Not going to happen.
Without US support, the UN would do pretty much what it does now, and in every other situation of intrest. Sit by impotently while making pointless statements. |
Palestine would easily win sovereign status by the UN if America withdrew her veto, and that would change everything, making Israel's conduct in the occupied territories into Acts of War.
The EU has already moved to ban support for businesses operating in the settlements (though yes, Israeli businesses as a whole are much harder to ignore)
