Forums - Gaming - Why aren’t PS4 and Xbox One titles hitting 1080p?

Because they aren't as powerful as the marketing goon's would have you believe..... neither of them.

There is no financial wizadry that can make a gaming console that costs $400 to $500 as competent as a gaming PC costing more.

The really deep technical arguments from people banging on about one being more powerful than the other are quite funny really. Anyone that cares THAT much should already have a gaming PC and be done with it.

Very true. Actually broke down and opened my last issue of Game Informer. In it the Edtior talks about does he want to miss out on better graphics in gaming. He decides no its very important and must get a next gen console. Never brings up the PC at all but if a slight bump in graphics is that important to him. why isnt he a PC gamer

Resolution is extremely demanding, I'd rather have more detail, better animation and such than 1080p.

These new systems are mid-range PC's. There is nothing special or magical about them. I do think they'll be hitting 1080p at 60fps for many games like Wii U is now, but it takes some programming time and skill. As far as 4K goes, it's pointless for all but the largest of TVs at the closest of distances. The human eye can't really pick up the difference. It's more important for game developers to focus on detailed, beautiful worlds than higher resolution beyond 1080p.

Nothing "special" or "magical" about high-end PCs either. They're just more capable. Through-and-through, the thread title and opening sentence make little sense, when all three next gen machines have games running in 1080p, with the exceptional oddballs.

Nobody ever suggested there was with a PC.

What they mean by special is doing more with less. Of course the PC doesnt need to do that because its always got more but some people believe they are actually getting something far superior or equal to a high end PC and all for only 400.00

Its like suggesting that for 20,000. I get the same performance as a 100,000.00 sports car. Its not going to happen.

For someone who tries to come off as a PC tech guy, you do a lot to try to bring the platform down.

Does anyone know exactly what games he is referencing that aren't hitting 1080p? Only one I've heard of at all was Ryse at 900.

Consoles were never meant to push graphics. Consoles are meant to convenience and affordability. Consoles are a medium to bring games to masses. People still want to push graphics with a $400-$500 console? Its pointless. If you like convenience and specific exclusives then go for consoles. If you want eye melting graphics then go for powerful pc.

The console makers and publishers sure as hell love (over)hyping graphics and specs at the start of every generation, though.

Mark Cerny speaks of "supercharged" components that work wonders for developers. MS has been adamantly fighting back against the narrative of the Xbox One being more expensive for less techncial punch. Then you have devs and publishers trotting out trailer after trailer showing off next-gen visuals, including the graphical engines' new capabilities specifically.

This is the debate that the industry wants the consoles to be centered on. They've been doing the same thing since I was little. They can't keep overselling closed-off $400-500 boxes with low power draw and not expect to be called out on it. I say that having played on both PC and console for years, and enjoying plenty of games on both platforms.

PS4 exclusives are hitting 1080p meanwhile on the Xbox one mmm, I will leave it like that. ;)

Ok you do make me laugh even Ryse on 900p looks so much better than killzone

Didn't know 900p is better 1080p, but is cool ;)

I didn't say 900p is better than 1080p u won't notice different all I said Ryse even looks better than killzone even it's on 900p

Once the cloud power is activated there won't be a game on the Xbone that can't run at 1080p.

Same here. Console makers are purshing the word "graphics" as a selling point. But they should be pushing games. Now a days new consoles are just an updated console, nothing more. In past new consoles meant "excitement and fun factor" like Christmas gift. Now everything is blurred. Thanks (sarcasm) to smartphones.

Battlefield is said to be lower too (at least the Xbone version)

So basically this article is pretty useless. Exclusive wise PS4 ones hit 1080p across the board. The only one that isn't is The Order and that's not due to technical limitations but because they are going with those black bar things for the cineatic look (like in beyond)

and also about all this but they should make a pc etc nonsense. Not everyone cares about pc gaming. And high end PC gamers are a very small minority in the gaming market. There's nothing wrong with people who are interested in console gaming discussing which console is more capable...cuz you know, that's what they want to buy not PCs. It's not rocket science. Those two are very different target audiences/markets

For once I actually agree with you. The graphics will be more then good enough on the Ps4 and x1, heck the ps3 and 360 still look fine to me and I have a gaming PC.

This 1080P and 60 FPs craze is just foolishness.

Games that utilize the full power of the ps4 and x1 will look excellent, right now launch titles are  mainly current gen engines being ported to next gen hardware.
