Forums - Nintendo - Scenario: Could the WiiU Survive on just first party?

Personally I think WiiU will always receive some support from the big publishers. It won't get all of the games, the big AAA blockbusters developed with X1 and PS4 in mind, and some of the games will have less effort gone into them than their counterparts.

But in the scenario Ubi and Warner drop their output completely, along with the scraps EA, Acti and the rest are giving WiiU, could the WiiU survive with just Nintendo's first party offerings? As great as they are to a lot of people, would it be enough?

Yes, Nintendo 1st party are the best overall!

GCN survived! They just need to have 3-5 IPs to compete with Uncharted/Infamous/Etc. Only metroid fits to compete with it imo, zelda as well but

Ofc its not enough unless Nintendo expands its studios a lot.  They have to support 2 consoles, not just one and at the rate games are coming out now Wii U owners would only get a new game every 2-3 months.

well considering that alot of those 3rd party games arent selling that hot anyway i would say yes they can.

Survive Yes. Thrive... No

Last time I looked Activision was putting all their PS360 game on the Wii U as well, so that's not really scraps.

And EA making nothing at all for the Wii U doesn't really qualify as scraps, either!

There first party heavy hitters will sustain the system long enough for a decent userbase by the end of the gen. It isn't going to set the world on fire by any means. The lack of third parties might create droughts too. There only so much Nintendo can do by themselves. The sales will prob be average like 30-40mil if it keeps going like this. They should be able to survive though.

To be fair I forgot Acti actually have a poor output across the board. I guess they haven't put Diablo on WiiU tho.

Edit - Neither is Destiny.

Yessiree bob but they need bigger first party output like 1 game per month and a wider variety of genres for more appeal..if nintendo could do that and maintain their high quality then they would actually be successful..They need to cooperate with sega and capcom more to create exclusive content also..gamers at least the hardcore, would eat this right up

Nintendo needs to expand. Invest in 2-3 quality studios will help them with the workload and best of all avoid these long droughts. They just need to find fill the spot that rare left.
