You are overestimating this a lot. Nintendo already had a console in China. The people there don't exactly have a lot of money (the average person)

Actually, I have a friend who lives in Hong Kong who says that people still buy video game consoles in China, but theya re imported and sold on the grey market for sometimes triple the price of the actual cost. Regardless of WHAT consoles they can afford, bet your bottom dollar that all three will find a way to make cheap consoles for China.

I have lived in China (Shanghai specifically back in 2008) and there are legit stores that actually sells consoles and at the same price as its being sold in Hong Kong. There is a niche community of console players in China, especially if you add the foreign students who studies there but they are mainly a PC market like South Korea.

Edit: To those who are saying there is a lot of poverty in China, that is true but there is also a huge middle class now in China because of their incredible economy. Not saying that the Big 3 will suddenly have astronomical console sales in a PC dominated market but they may find the boosts they need for sales in China.

nope won't be that big, china is all about pc and league of legends

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

MS are already on it.

the rest "have no plans" at the present time.

MS always showing how it's on the ball. If they can get as much success as they have in the past with foreign markets they should be fine.

Too bad niether of the other two companies have any plans to ship there. I know Sony reported that they were heavily negotiating with the Chinese government, some 4-5 months ago, they must have abandoned this plan and simply given up on China.

So they finally get their hands on PS2.

Take my love, take my land..

Be interesting to see just how big the market will be.

Do we have ANY data at all on console gaming in China?

"iQue is a Chinese joint venture with its founder, Wei Yen, and Nintendo. iQue also makes the iQue Player, which was the company's first product. The company manufactures and distributes official Nintendo consoles and games for the mainland Chinese market, under the iQue brand.

Currently, iQue may only release portable Nintendo games for iQue DS, Game Boy Advance, and Game Boy Advance SP. The iQue Player is the only home "console" available from the company in China. However, plans to release the Wii in China were officially announced by Satoru Iwata on 28 October 2007, but they were only available in Hong Kong, under the Nintendo brand. The Nintendo DSi was released in China in December 2009 as iQue DSi. The Nintendo 3DS XL was released in China as iQue 3DS XL in December 2012."

Cool, so I'll be able to play games where I can shoot Americans soon as a Chinese dood, can't say no to that.

Will be very interesting to see what this means in the long run. Maybe it could develop into a 4th market in a few years time. Aaaand it will be interesting to see how the Big 3 and all the publishers wilm adapt to this free-to-play mentality.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

holy shit, China is a part of Brazil and I never noticed.

I find it confusing that Sony has no plans with regards to the free zone and yet the Vita TV is releasing in China next year....
