Forums - PC - Nvidia announces collaboration with Valve on SteamOS

This is... awesome.

Can't wait to see the development of this in 2014.

Cool for nvidia an all but people still haven't answered my question on how the steam machines will perform in terms of market share yet.

So basically... AMD is going Console + (Mainly) Windows and Nvidia is going SteamOS + (Mainly) Windows

Interesting to see how its all gonna turn out...

What ever it is, it's going to be a bloody result.

"If it all works out for Valve, SteamOS-powered computers, also known as "Steam Machines", can be expected to overtake the likes of Windows-powered systems as game developers and publishers alike adopt the new operating system as a primary release platform for their video games."

I lol'd

Also, AMD > Nvidia

So AMD on console hardware, Nvidia on PC eh.

Wonder what it'll be for the next handhelds (if they continue to exist that is)

The answer is powerVR graphics chip I believe.

This is one of the biggest fucking IF's the world has ever seen.

Windows is not ever the primary release platform for video games now. Windows is not who they need to have there sites aimed at if they want that title.

Well. PowerVR and Adreno anyway, nVidia is making a big assault too on mobile!
I personally think AMD was silly to sell Adreno (Re-arrange the letters and it spells out Radeon!) to Qualcomm, they have a fairly chunky market share now.

nVidia however is planning to license out it's graphics technology for manufacturers to build GPU's around, much akin to how ARM will license out it's CPU technology for manufacturers to build processors from, so nVidia actually has a strong position to push out PowerVR and Adreno from the market (Especially high-end) if all the cards fall into the right place.

Actually selling Adreno (which is an anagram for radeon) was a smart idea seeing as how AMD didn't have an ARM liscense at the time plus they were dealing with loss after loss each quarter so yeah.

@Bold You know that PowerVR and Adreno has been doing this for ages so what offerings do nvidia have to them plus we all know that nvidia will overcharge it's graphics IP's just like they do for everything else. BTW nvidia won't be pushing out adreno anytime soon seeing as how it's parent qualcomm is f#cking ten times more huge than nvidia.
