I have my doubts about this "STEAM MACHINE"

 

If VALVE's Steam Machine is anything like that xi3 PISTON thing ($1,000), then Valve might as well forget it. Unless the thing arrives years later than PS4/XBONE, then I don't see how tiny Valve can leverage any better deal than Sony and MS in terms of pricing.

Then, there's the issue about physical media....Most retail stores won't allow a low or below margin piece of hardware to sit in their stores with no software to sell.

Valve has a very uphill battle and they have little experience....and they don't have unlimited resources to get it done.

I don't think they can do it by themselves.

 

Now, their OS...that could be intriguing.  They should put their resources into making that work instead.

Good, I hope this encourages MS to put a bigger effort in PC gaming.

Shutting down GFW really made MS look bad.

But Half-life is already on PC, Xbox360 and PS3 :O

I'm pretty confident it'll be exclusive to SteamOS (for at least a year or two), rather than any particular hardware since they've already confirmed you can effectively make your own Steam Machine by simply downloading Steam OS.

I suspect it'll be easy to dual-boot, too, and with the performance advantage, I thankfully don't see QUITE the level of backlash we saw with Half-Life 2 being Steam exclusive.

They need it to be though.  They need it to be the killer app for their console.

Personally, I think their console aspirations are pretty much "hopes & Dreams", but if they really mean business, then that's exactly what they'll do.....make it exclusive.

Whether they do or not will be a test of how serious they are about this Steambox or not.
