Off the shelf or not, they literally didn't build anything that can last. The PC space has already eclipsed both of them. It's only going to be worse in 5 years. Especially with things heating up again between AMD and Nvidia. 5 years should be long enough for the both of them. Plus they both should be able to have close to 100 dollar consoles by then (Well not MS anyways). |
I guess only time will tell, but I don't see any reason for anything to require something like a Titan for gaming in the next few years. Even now my laptop with it's measly GT 550M has no trouble running every PC I throw at it. Granted I cannot do ultra settings with the best available AA, blah blah, but my games all still look stellar. If PS4 and/or XBone can run at those settings then they have nothing to worry about when it comes to PC and it's ultra high powered and ultra expensive hardware options.
They can worry about that many many years down the line and still have them be compatible with all their old titles.
Also, depending on where the streaming options end up 5 years down the line can make the PC hardware advances even less of a concern.
As I said though, only time will tell.
iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.
