Whenever a naming scheme is changed, it's always confusing. I'm sure we'll get used to it. But I can't wait to hear the finalized specs!

Would be even more interesting if AMD's single GPU is faster or equal to Titan, AMD typically has better scaling these days with multi GPU's. :)

Personally, I don't see the sense in buying a Dual-GPU card, buying a couple of the single GPU cards usually results in more performance and a cheaper price anyway.

Well. My current Corsair PSU would probably be fine, Corsair units (Especially the HX and AX lines) can usually output more than their rated wattage anyway.
But I'll probably go for the Silverstone Strider 1500w PSU at any rate.

The bonus is my AMD FX system is going to get my triple 7970's and the Corsair PSU, then sell everything else off including a couple of Unlocked Radeon 6950's that were in my AMD rig which will pay for a chunk of the rebuild.

Generally, yep!
They usually lower the core/shader/memory clocks in order to fit the GPU's into a single GPU's TDP and Power budget, along with voltage reductions too.
You can usually overclock single GPU solutions higher too, due to more headroom in thermals and power delivery.

Heck the Radeon 6990 was basically 2x Radeon 6950's with unlocked shaders, thus Dual-6970's ended up faster. :P

If this turns out to be true, the R9 290X will be expensive.

An overnight tip clued us in on a Chinese website that has listed AMD's new Radeon R9 290X GPU for sale at several online shops. Website Taobao.com has listed several XFX-branded R9 290X models for sale ahead of the official release that takes place tomorrow.

Pricing on the cards starts out at $703 and goes as high as $773. Interestingly enough, one of the models shown is the Battlefield 4 combo package that looks to retail for $723. The AMD Radeon R9 290X has a 512-bit memory bus to 4GB of GDDR5 RAM which is significantly faster than the other R9 series cards, making it what many are calling the Titan Killer. While that is yet to be seen, the truth shall be unveiled tomorrow.

I hope it's just the store charging a premium for those that can't wait to order it, and that the final price is lower than that. But with the XFX's 7970 GHz being half the price of the 290X, it doesn't look good for competition.

That 512bit bus is probably driving up the cost, if the R9 290X is above $1,000 AUD, I will wait awhile for prices to settle, I can't go over $800 AUD per card, not after replacing the Case, Ram and Motherboard so it fits in with the Red theme.

This thing even beats the Titan in most games and at 4K it wins every time. 4GB of RAM, $550 price... What would anyone by a high end Nvidia GPU at this point? I mean I have the Nvidia Shield so I kind of have to, but what's your excuse?
