I seem to recall Ubi making a bankload of cash off of Wii titles (Raving Rabbids, Just Dance, Michael Jackson Experience). Those titles counted for about 40 million copies sold. I'd say that justifies Wii U development.

Even EA can't claim it didn't profit off of the Wii. EA Sports Active sold almost four million units, and the Tiger Woods games kept selling around a million units year after year. The MySims franchise sold about 1.5 million units the first two years and one million units with the third entry, but I guess gamers quickly got tired of that series getting overmilked. Either way, EA banked off of the Wii too.

So if PS360 sales justify Ubi/EA taking losses on their predecessors, then EA's support really should be "unprecedented" like it was promised. I'll give Ubisoft credit for sticking with the Wii U thus far, though not releasing Rayman Legends in the Spring was stupid.

Well yeah, if you want to be exclusive then sure you might be able to find some games that were profitable. But heres the thing, EA, Ubisoft, Sega and Activision are all big companies and if Wii's userbase meant thats where the money was then theyd develop for it. Simple as that. But since Nintendo has almost 0 3rd party support its quite clear that the Wii didn't bring in nearly as many profits that ps360 did even with their higher development costs.

Might have been the rampant piracy on the Wii^

I dunno they were pretty fickle, perhaps they should have kept their budgets in line more

Betrayed by EA and Ubi? Its not EA's and Ubisoft's job to lose money on a platform to help that platform

Funny, cause they took up that job for the PS360.

The ps360 sales justified the development

And before that the Ps2 SW sales and 360s user base justified their development as well.

Wiis SW sales? Sucked for 3rd parties. Wii Us user base? Terrible for 3rd parties.

Contradictions, contradictions everywhere.

this is all true but here's the thing, are those type of games going to sell on the WIi U? Just Dance hasnt done anything, Raving Rabbids, dont think they are gonna do another one of those. ANd i think EA is simply done making those types of games. Those were the types of games that they made money on for Wii. I dont see that happing again for WIi U at least not right now.

But my point is that if you use the argument that PS360 sales for EA and Ubisoft justifies gambling on PS4 and X1, then the Wii U deserves a fair shot based on the money it made for those publishers too. Would they have the same success? Probably not, or at least not yet until more WU's find more homes, but like with all young consoles, it's a chicken/egg sort of thing.

Wii had a very different audience than PS360 did, the types of games that did sell on those consoles were not the type of games that sold on WIi and vice versa. They dont seem to be making those WIi type of games anymore, but i do see what you are saying. Hell maybe they should just start making those types of games.

OT i see where the OP is coming from, but no, Wii U isnt taht much more powerful than PS360 it should have been cheaper,

Nah the PS4 and the Xbox One should be cheaper, take out all that suplerfluous shit you're packing in the box.

The only thing that actually costs that much in it is the RAM and the GPU.

for what the PS4 had under the hood especially compared to what the Wii U can do i think its a great price. and the market seems to think so too. So im not quite sure what you're talking about. Xone on the other hand, yeah they need to remove that kinect stuff and drop the price at least a hundred bucks, I think its going to have a PS3 situation with it being the most expensive console on the market by far.

but they did develop for WIi i dont know why people keep refuting this, its factual wrong to say they didnt develop for WIi. THey just didnt make the games that were big on PS360, and vice versa. EA had its active stuff and a bunch of shovelware stuff. Ubisoft and JD and more shovelware, Sega had a bunch of stuff, Activision shovelware.  Besides Ubisoft they dont seem to be interested in making those types of games anymore, and even they are just sticking to JD

I should have been more clear in expressing that very last sentence. Even if they don't bring over the AAA's like AssCreed and Mass Effect in the future, then they should at least make some of the games that were successful on Wii and see if the audience is still there. I'd personally prefer the former, but I'm not your typical introverted brat of a hardcore gamer that thinks every single game is supposed to appeal only to my personal interests.  I think the whole "all the casuals completely abandoned Nintendo" mantra is way overblown, and those games that brought Ubi/EA a ton of money before can still be profitable for them now, albeit more modestly.

See i agree with this. But the i also believe that they do believe that the casuals have left the system. ANd IMHO they are not that off the mark. If you look at the sales for the Wii series like Deca Sports, Carnival games, even Ninty's own WiiPlay you'll notice that every subsequent release has sold less than the one before, so can you really blame these guys for not wanting to make anymore of them? Especially on a new console that is selling at a much worst pace than the more popular console? I dont. Its not about appeal or not its about numbers and these types of games have gone down in sales. Even JD has peaked and i dont even wanna look at the WIi U sales for JD4. Yes they can make money but people bought those games because of they had the system, not a lot of people have WIi U.

So you're just going to ignore all the "AA" games that did really well on the system?

cant ignore what doesnt exist. No really what are these AA games that you are talking about? Are you talking about WIi? cause nothing of the sort has done well on WIi U not even close
