I never believe this would sell 2.55m MORE than the highest selling CoD. Damn, lol. I want CGI to tell me if he still thinks Ghosts (all versions) will outsell GTA this year .

Not this year, but perhaps in the long run (which is actually the prediction).

Besides, GTA doesn't do that yearly, making CoD more impressive.

Uhm no. GTA V will probably outsell this years COD and next years COD combined.

Errr...you expect it to sell 40-50 million? Yeah, good luck with that one. It would have to, at least, double the franchise's known 25-26 million, which won't happen no matter how impressive these numbers are.

COD has peaked, its going downhill. This years COD will sell less than Blops 2 which sold significantly less than MW3. COD is losing its appeal, yes its still popular but the fanbase is eroding away. Next year even more people will jump, to newer shooters like Titanfall and Destiny. I think GTA will certainly reach 40m with next gen and PC versions.

Damn, 3 times the size of GTAIV. The lifetime sales for this beast will be amazing.

You have to consider that when GTAIV was released the HD twins' install base was 29.7 million. GTAV released on an install base of 157.6 million consoles so 5 times bigger. GTAV's legs won't be has good as GTAIV's.

Still, looks like it'll sell more than GTAIV. And at a price well above $20.

Yes It should outsell GTAIV no problem. I just wanted to put the launch numbers in perspective.

It is very impressive. I am curious as to who these people are that bought it. This year or so have watched dozens of titles sell much less than hopped with few cracking seven figures (some even flopped at 5 figures). Yet, here comes GTA V smashing through 8 and likely 9 figures. So either a ton of people only bought this or it has such massive cross appeal that every group bought it.

In any event, good for the industry to show such a block buster game is still possible.

The end of the year is truly insane.

GTA V
FIFA 14
CoD Ghosts
Battlefield 4
Assassin's Creed IV
Pokemon X/Y

People were surely saving for these games (and other, smaler ones like Batman Arkham Origins, Monster Hunter 4 etc.)

The difference between GTA and other games is that they are not trying to milk every $ out of you by releasing a new version every year or so...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

9 figures?

That's a little crazy, I think. XD

Many games that flopped that I had hopes for were brand new entries (Wonderful 101 and Puppeteer are recent example just this past month).

If anything, the series that do milk (CoD, BF, AC, NFL, FIFA) seem to find great success while something like Sly Cooper after long hiatus barely makes a dent.

I am just always curious as my expectations for sales has been lowered  a lot lately then GTA V comes along and stuns me with success I simply did not think possible.

Precisely, the 1 game per 5 year model is far more sustainable than the CoD model. I know they could have made more money, but instead that helped with titles like Read Dead that went on to sell plenty.

I imagine their model will change slightly though. GTA Online is going to change a lot of things AND we are all going to be paying for expansions packs to bring in Las Venturas and San Fierro, but I for one am happy to do that. I always get high quality, fun and interesting games to play, so let them take their time, just ideally not quite so long next time!
