Twin Snakes just missed the cut :(

Did you like Twin Snakes?

From a gameplay perspective, I loved how they'd updated it; but in every other way I thought it was vastly inferior to the original.  Some of those "action packed" cutscenes they remade... bleh.

It was missing the most important thing of all:

Final Fantasy IV DS 85.00%
Final Fantasy IV Complete Collection 79.66%
Lunar Silver Star Harmony 80.79%
Star Ocean First Departure 76.94%
Dracula X Chronicles 81.40%
Mega Man Powered Up 83.10%
Mega Man Maverick Hunter X 81.66%
Dragon Quest IV 79.88%
Dragon Quest V 84.79%
Dragon Quest VI 80.00%

I blame After years for FFIV Complete's lower score n_n

AY is garbage until the last chapter/at the end. lol

Also DQV remake - OOOOH YA! I gotta play that again :D - loved the original on SNES.

Which proves that journalists don't finish games.  After playing the last chapter of The After Years, I could completely forgive how bad the rest of the game was because of how awesome the last chapter was :D.

Definitely inferior to the original, but definitely worth playing. It would make my personal list of top 10 remakes.

Some of the cut-scenes were over the top and in some instances the first-person aiming took away from the challenge of the game (the fight with Ocelot being a prime example) but overall I think it's an excellent remake of an all-time great game.

HD remakes do not count? How is the line drawn?

Every platform apart from the Playstation Vita: Remake

Playstation Vita: Port

You do realize that a Vita game tops the list?

As for where I draw the line. If the main difference between a game and its remake is resolution (as is the case with many HD collections) or controls (like with the Wii versions of RE4 and Okami, plus Metroid Prime trilogy), I consider it a technically superior port. The games I included either added a LOT of content (Persona 4), were complete graphical overhauls (the three Zelda games) or both (Metroid: Zero Mission).

That said, I know a list like this is inherently flawed, if only because the line between original and remake is so weird at points. For example, Kingdom Hearts 1.5 includes content from the Japanese-only Final Mix version. Does it have enough "new" content to count? Is it even new?

I just realised a remake I actually played that would've totally made my own personal list.

Ys: Oath in Felghana. Man, that was a good game.

Pretty interesting. I really should try to find a copy of Persona 4.

Don't worry, I was just joking. I definitely wasn't referring to how you judge whether a game is a remake or not.

Ocarina of Time
WW HD
Link's Awakening DX
Mario Advance 4.

None of these should be there, none fit what a real remake is and are more like enhanced ports.

I'd say Wind Waker would qualify as a remake.

That's pretty shocking. Good one for the Vita I guess.

I like the list. Having a hard time thinking of remakes, though. Bionic Commando Re-Armed, maybe?
