Do you reckon?

I mean, right now, MS gets some of the absolutely tiny developers working for them (i.e. Cave), but the "small" developers tend to stick with Sony, partly because of long-standing ties but partly because I assume they mostly sell their games in Japan and occassionally get an overseas contract, but it's not a certainty.

If MS were to ditch Japan altogether, I could see a few more "mid" sized developers/publishers joining those ranks.  Say, the Koei side of Tecmo-Koei or the Bandai side of Namco-Bandai games.

Maybe I'm wrong, I haven't looked into the numbers for too long, but I was of the impression that these games at least recovered the cost of porting domestically, and then made the profit from overseas.  Eliminating one of those sources might make things a bit less stable.

Quite funny, alot of people said neither though, maybe they wanted a WiiU?

Well, I don't purchase multiple consoles, but mainly because problems with money. If I could, I would buy everthing. Vita included.

Japan only accounted for less than 10% of console sales this gen. I really don't get why in 2013 they are still considered so meaningful. Even Sony isn't launching there due to a lack of interest from Japanese developers early on.

I'm not saying to ignore the market, but they seem to get FAR more attention than the UK but the console sales are almost identical. Isn't about time to categorize Japan as an "Other"?

A curious number of people actually seemed unsure. There were 7 or 8 "neither"s, at least a few "I don't know" / "either"s, and even a lot of the people who answered PS4 added a "maybe" or "probably" to that. And I recall an "If I had to pick between those..."

Of course the general response was overwhelmingly in favor of PS4, but it also seems as though many of these gamers are still taking things into consideration -- they aren't dead-set on the PS4 just yet.

Kudos to the one PS Vita answer. :P I'm sure more would have said that if it was one of the options offered.

No, that would send the wrong message. Its like telling the world we have no confidence in our own product. Supporting Japan is a safer bet besides MS is a multi-BILLION dollar company. Even if the Xbox division never makes them any money in like EVER. It won't hurt them.

Home console sales. It's more like 16% if you include handhelds, while "Other" accounts for roughly 11%. Japan is bigger than every "Other" country combined. If you isolate handhelds, Japan represents over 20% of the market.

Oh yeah, and as for the LTD of 8th-gen consoles (Wii U+3DS+PS Vita), Japan represents 35% of the market.

So unless you think VGC should stop tracking handheld consoles entirely, keeping Japan separate from other markets is necessary.

XBOne fans don't despair! Albert Penello's wise command prevailed on Major Nelson's objections, and the XBOne nickname was finally accepted by MS: thanks to it, the new 8th gen MS brainchild will sell to Japanese girls like HOT CAKES!!! Not to mention that dogs too, Japanese and not, will ADORE it.
