If you want to license Blu-Ray you have to support HDCP over HDMI for protected content.

? To capture video via HDMI you need a HDMI out on the console... not in. |
He obviously missundertood the title (and frankly the title is a bit missleading). Just repeating "to capture video via HDMI..." like you did, will not help him undestand either but anyway...
@Pbroy: This thread is talking about the ability to capture PS4 video gameplay (or anything coming out of the PS4) to another device (PC, or any HDMI capture device). Usually this is not possible because they are using HDCP (which protect the content being sent over the HDMI cable); but it looks like Sony is going to disable this while playing games (but not while playing movies obviously) and you will then be able to capture it using any capture device (with HDMI in port).
I have an HDMI capture card on my PC and have captured many clips off my Xbox 360 using HDMI. This to me isn't anything new...
Are the new consoles supposed to be locking down gameplay by applying HDCP?

Sorry, my post wasnt clear after re-reading it. I'm refrencing this "issue" with the DRM "issue." People were talking about how Sony would have the same restrictions concerning DRM because "they never came out and said it" (when they did numerous times). The same thing happened with this. People were saying Sony took away video capture because "they never came out and said they support it." I didnt mean for it to seem like i was comparing ms and sony. I was comparing the two different situations and the way people made a big deal about them

PS3 apply HDCP.
going by this it looks like its not at launch
We announced today that PS4 users will be able to capture their gameplay through HDMI output in the future. We'll update you when ready.

Direct HDMI feed... no DHCP... it's not about the share feature. You will can take your gameplay feed without addicional accessory like PS3. |
Hahaha, ethomaz, DHCP is not HDCP :D:D I like your english so much! I am glad you didn't leave for Neogaf!!

Odd
There were so many upset when they couldn't use capture devices for PS4 (based on this forum, other forums, and youtube)
Now there doesn't seem to be the same number that care about being able too
Wonder how many of those upset had any intention of buying the PS4 in the first place
Machinima, IGN, Gamespot, and every outlet like them that initially reported this nonsense need to stop using "reliable insider secret ninja sources" as their main basis of information.
