One of the things that may be good for a small retail release is that Nintendo is free to offer the game for a lower price on the eShop now and won't piss off retailers.

So think of this as a limited retail release for people who just have to have a physical copy (I got mine!).

But really to gain a foothold a game like this probably needs to be $29.99 or so on the eShop.

Unfortunately new cartoony-based IP are having a really, really tough go of it these days -- W101 isn't alone with The Puppeteer also looking like a bomb and even established franchise characters like Rayman having a tough time.

And this is why Nintendo sticks with expanding existing IP's.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Unfortunately it looks to me like hardcore/dude bros. gamers are the ones that most enthusiastically will accept new IP. Titanfall is probably going to be a big hit for example. Uncharted, Assassin's Creed, Borderlands, Gears of War, Red Dead Revolver, The Last Of Us (sequel is inevitable), etc. are other new IP that have become hits this gen.

But kids don't seem to be interested in things like Wonderful 101, Little Big Planet Karting, Puppeteer, or even Rayman. It's gotta be an established popular kids brand to sell it seems.

It has to be a popular kids brand to convince parents that it's good for their children, yes.

Skylanders. We've been over this before. Spyro was a trojan horse at best, and clearly unnecessary or else he would have remained more prominent going forward.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

It is absolutely mind boggling how Japanese devs still have a giant boner for Nintendo when it still causes 90% of their games to fail. But they still want to support them! Exclusively!

Minus From Software and Konami, i seriously couldn't care less for any Japanese devs. They should seriously consider quitting console gaming

I believe this is part of the Kamiya problems with Nintendo's marketing.

Edit: Oh my god, the post above me.

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

it seems that if it isnt one of Ninty's proven IPs they dont really give a crap about it. It was a struggle just to get them to release Xenoblade in the US. So this doesnt really surprise me sad to say, hell that seems to be a common thread among everyone now.

Spyro is not a new IP and the orginal game was very much promoted as a Spyro game, no matter how you want to spin it. NOW after it became popular then Spyro is kind of pushed to the back.
