One of the things that may be good for a small retail release is that Nintendo is free to offer the game for a lower price on the eShop now and won't piss off retailers.
So think of this as a limited retail release for people who just have to have a physical copy (I got mine!).
But really to gain a foothold a game like this probably needs to be $29.99 or so on the eShop.
Unfortunately new cartoony-based IP are having a really, really tough go of it these days -- W101 isn't alone with The Puppeteer also looking like a bomb and even established franchise characters like Rayman having a tough time.
