Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Crazy Question/Prediction: Will Microsoft buy SegaSammy due to $ woes?

Nintendo and Sega together makes more sense than Microsoft and Sega. Sonic fits in on Nintendo consoles better than he would on the 360.

Nintendo still doomed?
Feel free to add me on 3DS or Switch! (PM me if you do ^-^)

Sega would compliment Microsoft's current offerings by introducing far more balance to their line-up; if Sega was in its prime games like Sonic, Nights, Jet Grind Radio, Crazy Taxi, Phantasy Star, Toe Jam and Earl, and Skies of Arcadia would provide an excellent contrast to the games that Microsoft publishes.

The problem is that Sega is far from their prime ...

Microsoft tried to by Sega before CSK sold them to Sammy and they refused. Sega offered to sell themselves to Nintendo before they went third party but Yamauchi nixed the idea because he didn't want Nintendo to assume Sega's massive debt. I am sure MS would still be interested in picking up Sega, the hurdle would be whether Sega/Sammy would be open to the sale.

As I've said in "Sega Sammy dumping 400 employees" thread, I don't care who picks up Sega as long as they right the ship. Whether it be Sony, MS, or Nintendo doesn't matter, what matters is getting Sega back to the most versatile AAA software developer in the industry. Sega used to be able to make a AAA title in any genre. Now they are C- all the time with AM2 being long AAA development house.

Did you just say Sega use to be the most versatile AAA development team? Does Capcom ring any bells?

I can see Nintendo attempting to buy Sega, with their newfound cash making devices.

MS may do the same but I think the company would be in better hands under Nintendo.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

I think your crazy. Mostly do to the impeding Yahoo deal.

Were they not trying to buy Yahoo it'd make sense.

Well that and i'm pretty sure Sega is one of those companies that won't sell out to foriegn companys. Japanese companys seem very adverse to being bought out by foreign companies.

Unlikely, simply because of the pending Yahoo purchase, if nothing else. Microsoft's focus is on other food.

No one, not even Nintendo could touch Sega's versatility in their prime. Name the genre Sega had a triple AAA title in it. Sega had AAA games in the platforming, fighting, rpg, sports, action, etc. etc. etc. Sega had and they had it in spades.

Edit: Yahoo is worth far far far more than Sega. Given their recent woes, Sega would actually be cheaper to purchase now than when MS attempted to do so back in 2000/2001.

Microsoft could have bought many software developers in the past 2 years and chose not to so it's doubtful they would consider buying Sega Sammy Holdings unless something has changed significantly inside Microsoft.

If a new Phantasy Star game came exclusive to the 360 I'd get one.
