Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft: Japan is a "soulful place" for games

How ridiculous. They dont have a single product tailored to the japanese needs, much less the console.

which is probably because spencer starts his quote with, "People ask why are we going to TGS. Obviously, Japan we've announced isn't one of our launch territories."

Exactly.  They have to defend going to the TGS as a preemptive thing

meh, whatever.  i'm not going to listen to it but this is from major nelson's podcast.  i'm pretty sure spencer didn't have to say anything as this isn't the kind of format that has vindictive reporters trying to get them to make a gaff for the hits.  spencer should have just chosen his words more carefully.  he out there doing marketing and should be careful to ensure his words craft the message he wants people to talk about.

Your're right, he needs to be very thoughtful of how and what he or anyone from M$ says.  No matter what he says, people are nitpicking the crap out of every word from M$ since the XB1 launch.  They no longer get the benefit of the doubt.  That' the price they pay for the poor launch messaging.

What is it about the XB1 that is not tailored to the Japanese needs?  High end tv/audio productgs are HUGE in Japan.  So, a game system with HDMI passthrough should be an obvious feature that would prove to be popular there.  Seeing as how M$ is manufacturing the console, why are they responsible to make all of the software too?  Either way, because the XB1 and the PS4 are so x86 friendly, they both will have the opportunity to run most of the apps that are Japanese native.
M$ will probably put out a token Japanese centric title, but more than likely if their is any penetration of the XB1 there, they will pay for ports.

"Japan is a soulful place for gaming--which is why we're proud to announce Dream Club C+ Omega Party X My Little Sister Can't Really Be This Cute: Hot Springs Holiday for the Xbox One and Kinect 2.0!"

And Boom, the xbox one sells 5k per week..

I really can't understand this hatred towards Xbox, Japan got plenty of those titles exclusive on Xbox, Online Monster Hunter, so basically the first HD episode saw the day on it. And yet Xbox brand is doomed in there. I am actually wondering what should I do if I were the CEO of Xbox Japan Devision..

Urgh, I don't care at this point. The good thing is, since the X1 is region free, I can finally import those wacky yet funny Japan-exclusive games! :P

Good luck with that, Microsoft.

I wouldn't call it hate, just economic sense.  Microsoft paid for a few exclusives but the overwhelming majority of Japanese games were only on the PS3.  If Microsoft really wants to do better in Japan, they'll use their money to ensure that pretty much everything is multi-plat.  What good are 10 niche exclusives when Sony has many times that without even paying for them?  In that environment, I can't blame Japanese gamers.

you're right there.  it amazes me how much the tables have turned between MS and Sony because things used to be just the opposite only a few short months ago.  it's absolutely jaw dropping how fast things can change sometimes.

He is right. Whether it is to launch there in 2013 or not there is no valid reason to just ignore them.

Showing an interest in the region > than showing no interest.

I hope MS release Lost odyssey 2 ( lost odyssey is  amazing game for xbox 360)

Not likely cuz the sales for the first one and blue dragon were commercial failures and that is why microsoft canned mistwalkers third game cry-on.
Edit:Nintendo also felt a bit soured how the last story didn't take off.

Ehh...source? 800k for a JRPG is a success. Maybe it didn't reach Lost Odyssey expectations, but I'm sure they profited on Blue Dragon.

I'm pretty sure blue dragon outsold lost odyssey looking at the vgchartz numbers and I would estimate the game costed at least 15 million dollars to make given that it created alot of assests to span on 3 full DVD's while also having roughly 2 years of development time. Oh and there were 2 developers while your at it. Artoon had around 80 and it was creating the ingame assests while mistwalker with a staff of about 15 at the time were the ones conceptualizing it. I have some trouble believing that blue dragon made profit with these circumstances.

I'm definitely sure that lost odyssey also made a loss and not a gain given the fact that mistwalker has experienced some development issues.
