B&W had the biggest opening ever in Japan, nearly one million more than Diamond and Perl. D&P still outsold it at the end of the day.

Pokemon XY will be massive. The series don't sell under 5 millions in Japan. Animal Crossing pulling more than 4.5 millions in Japan showed the road. Pokemon XY is guaranteed of 5 millions. The fanbase is one of the most loyal.

The fact that the DS had around 3x as many sales in Japan by Black and White's launch as the 3DS does now has nothing to do with it, right? Or the fact that this is the first time the series will be available as a digital download as well?

I think we should all agree that there's really no basis for what OP is trying to say.

XY isn't going to be as big as the last few gens.

It's going to be bigger.

it may start slow because of monster hunter, but by the end of the year not even GTA V could be able to see the dust X&Y is shaking!

Aside from Pokemon still being a popular franchise, X/Y have some things going for it:

1) There's the nostalgia factor, with the inclusion of mega evolution of gen 1 Pokemon (especially the 3 starters) is hooking more people than you think. Friends of mine who had no interest in the game are now pretty hype from that alone. It sounds crazy, but is something I noticed.

2) First mainline 3D Pokemon, this may sound small but is a pretty big deal for a lot of people, especially for old fans which were wanting this for a long time.
