Okay so I recently bought Naruto: Ultima Ninja Storm a game developed by cyberconnect, a japanese country that has exclusivity for the Naruto IP on PS consoles..... because i heard it was somewhat similar to Naruto: Rise of a ninja....a game developed by Ubisoft that was only for Xbox 360 thanks to cyber connect. The thing is, the Ubisoft game didn't sell well because Naruto's audience isn't in America....but Ultimate Ninja Storm did because it was on PS3.
But the quality difference between the two is simply astounding. In Rise of a Ninja you're placed in a sandbox world with a ton of side missions and the story is told while you do main missions and stuff, and while you're doing that you earn cool abilities that assist you in the sandbox world....in the Ninja Storm game you're placed in an sandbo world where you have to go to mission fronts to take on a mission...which is basically just skipping straight to fighting. While in rise of a ninja you would have to actually explore and do platforming to advance...in the ninja storm game you just fight and all the abilities are given to you, such as walking up walls, on water, running super fast, etc...giving you no sense of progression.
The story is told way better in Rise of a Ninja, honestly someone new to the Naruto universe would be so confused if ninja storm was the first game they played....the combat is actually challenging and feels rewarding when you pull off a jutsu in Rise of a Ninja....Ninja Storm's combat gets very repetitive after awhile honestly.
It's just a shame that a Western Dev treated a Japanese IP better than a Japanese dev, it's a shame Rise of a Ninja never made it to the PS3 otherwise I'm confident that Ubisoft would've made more sequels...cause honestly the Ninja Storm series is getting milked like a CoD game at this point. I bought Generation...won't even bother buying 3....since Ubisoft stopped making Naruto games cyberconnect took away the open world from the naruto games and made them very linear and recycling so much shit from earlier games it cringeworthy....
welp at least it was better than the Bleach game which sucked all ass....seriously the budget probably was 1.5 at most.
And what's even worst is how cyber connect uses the same engine...combat system for the most part....and other shit for almost ALL of their games. Like jesus be ambitious for once. Are Japanese devs really this scared to take risks?
