Forums - Sony - Problems with the Vita TV

Upon reflection, I feel as though the Vita TV could be a good bit of kit.

However, for now, it seems like it'll be unfulfilled. You've given some problems which can be fixed easily, some less so, and some which aren't major issues to begin with. But for as long as the actual system can't play a good number of games, then the system won't realise this potential IMO.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

"No 1080p"

Why? Why would they do this? I know the Orignal apple TV was only 720P, but that was years ago.  Did they not realize that a $49 Roku does that which has a remote including has free shipping? http://www.roku.com/roku-products

It's the the PSTV they had - which was cool that two people could game full screen with the special 3D glasses thing, but it was also only 720P and kinda small for today's TVs.

Didn't they push 1080P on the PS3?  Just confused by it.

Again, the PS Vita can handle 1080p without problems, all it needs is a system update. It isn't implemented until now, because there would be no point as the Vita has a sub 720p Screen and no TV Out. But the PS Vita TV will get 1080p without a doubt. After all, it's faster than almost every smartphones and those things can handle 1080p while running Android which needs more resources than Vita OS.

In short: Don't worry, there will be 1080p.

Could the reason why Uncharted is not vita tv compatable is because it uses the camera?

It also uses that light - kinda technology. You had to point your VITA against a source of light to pass a certain puzzle in the game if i recal correctly

That's what I was referring to

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

Having it use the PS3 controller (for now) for Japan who wont have the PS4 is not exactly a bad idea. If this translates into the PS4 controller at a later date + adds content (or the ability to play those other games) this would be a much better piece of equipment.

No 1080p is very disappointing though. This can be fixed with a firmware update, I just do not think it will happen. 720p/1080i for Vita games is perfect though.

PS Vita TV WILL be compatible with DS4

The Bitch is back! And better then ever! #BritneyReturns

SONY Bring them BACK for PS4 and VITA!

my only beef with the OP is the talk about the vita memory cards.
Vita mem cards were cut in price by half. Sales did not increase. Card prices were never the problem.

Don't know why you'd want to buy a Vita to use as a controller instead of just playing on the vita.

For the same reason I bought a PSP-3000. I want the games, but only if I can play them on my TV. I don't have any reason to play games anywhere else, but my living room.

Do you have a wii u? Unlike the PSP, the Vita has a touch screen. Playing on the tv while touching the screen correctly just doesn't work. Video out would really only be useful for non touch based games and having other people watch. Well PSVITA.TV can already play all those games that don't need touch.

No I don't. I don't see how not looking at the screen while touching it will be a huge problem.....Unless there's a game that makes you do cursive writing on a line, and in that case, fuck that game.

It's compatible with the Dual Shock 4. It's just that this launches in Japan in November, but the PS4 doesn't come out until Feb 2014.

Being simply compatible is one thing but I would have very much preferred Sony made it DualShock 4 compatible only, even if this meant shipping the controller out early for Japan. This makes the UI and touch interface less impenatrable and reinforces a brand and vision of a united PlayStation family, while also making sure there will be a lot of DS4 circulation for the next 5-10 years.

If it comes West, it might well ship with a DS4 as standard here. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens. Sony are probably wanting to clear out unused DS3 components with this as no doubt PS3 shipments will start to reduce now.

I've mentioned this already but being compatible isn't the only problem, it's the fact that it's not being bundled or associated with the Vita TV. Selling a soon to be obsolete DS3 with the Vita TV means

1. A gamer that buys a PS Vita TV and wants to upgrade to PS4 at a later date can't use their controller.

2. That gamer can't bring his DS3 to play with their friend's PS4s.

3. The heavily touch-influenced UI will be bogged down by inpenetrablely lousy UI controls without things like swiping and scrolling. Navigating between the PS Vita apps and doing things like scrolling through a web browser will be clunkier than it should have been.

4. Associating the DS4 with the Vita TV is critical for establishing the PlayStation brand and strengthening consumer recognition or familiarity. You and I can tell the difference between a DS3 and DS4, but the mainstream consumer will be infuriated to know the controller they just bought for the Vita TV won't work for their PS4.
