How does the remote play with PS4 work?

If my VitaTV is downstairs it can wirelessly send the signal to my bedroom TV upstairs?

This is actually how remote play works.  You can connect to your PS3 directly.  Should be the same with PS4.

@OP, I think this is a very clever idea and completely out from the left field.  Someone thought of something right for a change.  Plus the price point is amazing.  Now if only Sony properly markets this thing, it can turn into the perfect children's gift.  Hell I hope this thing does Streaming from media servers cause I'd actually buy one for the spare T.V.

I just read the news a minute ago. I'm really confused about this product. It's a Vita with no screen and no portable capabilities? So it sits in your living room or bedroom and allows you to play Vita games on your TV? And also allows you to play any PSN games on your TV?

So do games like Gravity Rush work on Vita TV, because that game used a lot of touchscreen stuff. And how is Tearaway meant to work? I was under the impression that used the back touchscreen a lot.

So this is a Vita that doesn't play the entire Vita library and doesn't allow you to play on the bus or train or anywhere away from a TV? Why not just buy a 12GB PS3 for $200 instead? Or, if you want a portable system that plays all Vita games, a Vita? I don't get who is the intended consumer here?

Anyhow, now i really need to 'basket' those vita games from Psplus!!!

Firstly, has this been confirmed to work with PS3?

As if it was PS4, the pad has a touch pad which could be used in place of the touchscreen

The best way to find out if you can trust somebody is to trust them.

I am already a Vita owner and will get PS Vita TV, very useful for playing soul sacrifice at home with a friend without splitting the screen.

A lot of PS3 owners with PS Plus without a Vita might want to try it because it's cheap, there are a lot of people like me who barely play a PORTABLE outside the house. Ps Vita TV is still very portable compared to PS3 superslim.

I'll reverse your question: Why will people buy the expensive 12GB (that is a big problem for ALL games installations) PS3 (old gen console that will get fewer games than Vita in the next years) when there is PS Vita TV that is more affordable(also cheaper games) and a lot slimmer? (and I'm not yet talking about YLOD stuff, that clearly doesn't apply to Vita). (very late model ps3 slim 160GB Ylod on me)

EDIT: Gravity Rush in very early stages was intended as a PS3 game, it's also first party wich suggests it may become compatible, mapping functions to new buttons (L2,L3,R2,R3) and...don't forget DS3 HAS GYROSCOPES!

I liked the idea, and then I read:

Kinda kills any interest I had in the console, really.

Two years ago, I desperately wanted a way to play PSP games on a TV screen. I debated getting a 2000 model which you could output onto your TV; but decided against it.

This literally fills that gap. And yet, after actually trying handheld gaming, I think I prefer it to playing on a TV screen now. Whoops.

surely this will be updated? Gravity rush uses are mostly optional apart from dodging but that can easily be deligated to a trigger.

I think this is neat, but if Sony honestly wants the Vita to be successful, the real path there is to make an Xperia Vita Android cellphone with a slider design.

This is Sony admitting no one wants to play console games on a portable.

This seems to be like a poor mans console, isn't it?

It'll be very interesting to see how it does!

So why did they announced  a NEW PORTABLE MODEL? No one is interested in that, right?

They are just expanding their product offer, it's a good thing in my opinion!

OK, I see where you're coming from. So for you this is kind of like a Gamecube Game Boy Player? It allows you to play the games you already enjoy on your handheld on a TV. It just seems expensive for that level of functionality.

As a Vita owner myself, I would just never recommend this product to someone interested in playing Vita games. Those games were designed, in most cases, with the Vita hardware in mind. Not to be played with a Dualshock controller on a TV. Plus, the raison d'etre of any handheld system is portability. You lose all that with Vita TV.

There are several PSP games I would love to play but I hate playing on a handheld. I'd get this just to play Valkyria Chronicles 2 and 3. Though they'd look like shit on a big TV screen I don't care, I just want to play them.

I'd also quite like to check out the Monster Hunter games too maybe.

I already play PSP games on my TV (with PSP2000) and because of black borders the graphics DOESN'T look like shit.
