Forums - Gaming - What is the case for the Wii U being the perfect upgrade we need now, and the PS3 and ONE being overkill?

The Wii U is not for people who only care about specs. Neither are the PS4 & Xbone. What is the case for buying one of those when I could just make a gaming PC?

Don't care about specs but do care about the second screen?  If people don't care about specs, why not just have a 360 or PS3?

The Wii U is there for people who want more Mario & Friends. Pretty much as simple as that.

And nothing third-party?  I thought the second screen was supposed to mean third-party support.  The talk was about everyone on board, but that hadn't transpired.

Remember this?

I don't ever want to see that gif again.

LOL at that gif. Some people really drank the Kool Aid.

Well, personally, I'm fine with the level of technology we have now. In fact, I'd be fine if hardware manufacturers stayed at seventh gen (or even sixth gen) tech for the next few generations as long as the games were great.

But to answer your question in general, consumers will be upgrading to Wii U because they want to play Zelda and Mario and Donkey Kong and Kirby and Fire Emblem and Metroid and Pikmin and a bunch of other exclusives. And fans will upgrade to Xbox One because they want to play Halo and Fable and Forza. And fans will upgrade to PS4 because they want to play Killzone and Infamous and, God willing, The Last Guardian.

I am interested to see someone clarify this for me.

What I see is the Wii U is like current generation, with a bit of upgrading over it.  The argument to go from the 360 and PS3 to the Wii U is that it does more.  BUT, then if current generation is not enough, and the Wii U is needed, then why is the ONE and PS4 NOT needed as far as tech upgrade.  Why is the Wii U a perfect upgrade path for next generation, while the ONE and PS4 are overkill?  In short, why not just stick with current generation consoles if you have them, rather than buy a Wii U?

But that's not true and who is saying that?? There is no case lol how can after 7 years a non noticeable jump in graphics/power be the "perfect upgrade"?

In reply to your last sentance, if you like Nintendo franchises it's a good idea to get a WiiU.

Well, can you play Mario Kart, Smash or Zelda on those guys?

Because people buy consoles for games, not graphics.

While I agree to an extent, I do think graphics play a part in which console people choose. I'd be pretty confident is saying the WiiU would be selling better if it didn't currently look like the current gen consoles.

Because the Wii U is an upgrade to the under-powered Wii. I need my Nintendo exclusives in glorious HD.

Exactly.

I also wouldn't say PS4/One are overkill, just not as noticable of a jump. They are still going to make a lot of games playable on PS3/360, and I intend to abuse my PS3's free online as long as possible.

Nintendo exclusives will always be necessary. Even though they have been behind on tech for two gens straight, Nintendo's games have a different charm and everyone wants to see what a nice graphical and power facelift will do for the titles. Sure the PS4 and Xbone are in a while other league, but Nintendo is that brand where you can step down and be a kid for a second, in a stop taking yourself so seriously, kind of way.

Um, like, Nintendo games? As in, the reason people buy Nintendo systems? Unless there's Zelda, Donkey Kong, Smash Bros., Metroid, Kirby and Mario on PS360. It's like saying why buy a PS4 when you can get an X1. Or a PC. It's just a silly argument, you buy a system for it games.
