Forums - Sales - Why do Xbox 360 games sell so much better than PS3 world-wide?

I still don't understand why a whole nation decides to ditch titles like Halo,Gears,Forza and XBLA.
To me that's kind of missing a generation right there.
Do they have a unified center of intelligence that's connected to all the gamers? It looks like they have a singular taste for everyone.

You mean like how jrpgs don't sell well in the West?

Wanna compare them to FPSs in Japan? TPSs? WRPGs? Western Sandbox games?

So ps3 has sold more consoles....... and theres millions of RROD 360's to take in to account too. (lots of folks went out and just bought a new 360, thus the 360 has inflated sales sony fans right? RIGHT..!!!!)

700,000 lead for ps3, plus say however many millions of 360's that were just purchased again instead of fixed.

Yes.....safe to say then that the 360 has been a software BEAST this gen.

Ahhhh, Because the M$ bots are buying their own software to push their sales up. :)

Really though, I think that many people have already made this point. Seems to depend on what kind of title it is and then the sales mirror the game type favoritism of that region.

Maybe because of PS Plus and maybe not every ps3 owner buys ALL the main stream games.
For example: american people buy a lof of shooters right? European people a bit less, in some genres american sales (country with more 360s sold than ps3s) have great impact worldwide in my opinion. I think ps3 players have more different tastes among them. (sorry if there are some grammar mistakes)

What a misconception. Who buys more arcade/indy games than US? US buys more soccer games than EU or Japan buy football.

The market where the consumers vary their choice the most is US then EU then Japan.

Lol, that's because football is exclusively an American sport while football is the biggest sport in the world. This isn't anything to be proud of really.

Sorry but where did I show pride in my sentence? I was just stating that US gamers have broader spectrum of the market than their Jap/EU counterparts.

We don't buy just shooters.

I believe he is talking about the majority of the time and it is no secret that multiplat games generally sell more on X360.  MSFT is nonexistent in japan so this is doing it without japan pretty much

Software Sold

X360 - 776.53

PS3 - 687.3

Hell just look at this week

Global Top Sellers 24th August 2013

1 X360 Saints Row IV 541,245
2 PS3 Saints Row IV 287,453
3 X360 Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist 257,866
4 PS3 Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist 162,122
5 X360 Disney Infinity 122,309
6 Wii Disney Infinity 106,512
7 PS3 Disney Infinity 84,099
8 X360 Minecraft 56,340
9 X360 The Bureau: XCOM Declassified 56,258
10 3DS Mario & Luigi: Dream Team 55,863

Saints Row and Splinter Cell have a stronger fanbase on the 360.

Saints Row 1 was and is an 360-exclusive and there was no PS3-version of Splinter Cell: Coviction.

Generally, a slightly higher tie ratio for the 360 is hardly surprising. It launched one year before the PS3 (16 month in Europe) and the gap was closed this year. So the 360 had a greater install base for 7 years.

Now that's just silly. We buy crazy numbers of football games in Europe every single year!

PS. What's soccer?

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

I don't know, do you know?

Seriously, Sony Fanboys or MS Fanboys can't deny the fact that the Xbox 360 sold more software

1. Yes the Xbox has a larger user base, but even if you check software sales from year 1 to today MS has sold more software every single year up until this year

2. If you want to do a more accurate measurement compare Sony's Software Sales to the previous year MS sales numbers and you will find it still has sold more

At the end the day all those wasted arguements on who sells more systems should be geared towards who sells more software.  Software is where a majority comes for console developers.  If you look at the Total Lifetime software sales, PS is still behind MS by around 85-90 million.  It has more to do with just 1 year launch difference.

A Majority of the 'AAA' rated titles get launched in the US first which is why MS usually leads in 3rd party sales for about 75% of the AAA titles released, though 2 years ago that number would have been much higher.

Look at Japan 90% of the those titles don't leave the Japanese Market, because it's more segmented then other markets.  (i.e. Majority of JRPGs SIM games etc specific to that market)  They do great sales numbers in Japan, but thats it and thats a limited market.

Another factor, a lot of the Sony Exclusives, don't do very well for whatever reason.  Combine that with the fact that if MS didn't have third party, they wouldn't have any games, so of course third party is going to be bigger with MS device.

Maye that was the case in 2007/8 but looking at the software charts thus far this year and PS3 is ahead by almost 10 million in software..
