The very idea of calling something overrated is ridiculously narcissistic. Basically, overrated means, "people love this game, but I don't, and my opinion>>>>>>>>theirs." It's demonstrative of why the video game community sucks.

There are cases where games ARE overrated though.

Grand Theft Auto IV being the perfect example.

God of War 1 had a meaningful story. It represented a greek tragedy very well. The downfall of a hero who seeks revenge and realize there no escape from what he did.

God of War 2 is just a bloodshed with no meaning other than "Kill the GOD!!" and God of War 3 is the same.

Not true in the slightest, and 2 had by far the best Sp campaign, and level design.

This guys can explain it 10x better than me

You probably didn't watched it buy anyway. It's a game show call extra credits, they talk about game developing and other cool stuff about video games.

The writer worked on various AAA games and it's now giving class about game developing.

The animator (which right now is not the same, but at the time of this episode she was) is a game developer which is currently working at Retro Studios.

So this guys know their stuff.

Nintendo and PC gamer

Skyrim I agree with and COD and GTA.

I thought Halo 1 & 2 were overrated but I haven't played that much of 4 to say.

It's all opinion I mainly like JRPGS so anything thats not one is usually overrated to me lol

I appreciate the time and effort that OP took in making this, and I respect his opinions. But I can't say I agree with any of the 10 games being overrated aside from MW2 but that's because I dislike every CoD game after Modern Warfare. That said, MW2 is probably the best CoD since MW. I really liked Sonic Adventure 2, one of my favourite games when I was growing up. And I think FF7 is one of the best games of all time, loved the Chocobo side quest, Sephiroth, and the whole first disc of the game especially was amazing. But hey, opinions are like butts, right?

Human contact, the final frontier.

I pretty much agree with all except for Twilight Princess. While the game was in fact very highly rated, at the same time it deserved. Maybe I'm just a huge fan of the Zelda titles with the darker stroytelling and atmosphere (namely TP and Majora's Mask), but I loved that game none the less. My only complaint on it ever was the small ammount of swords to unlock, but other than that, beautiful game.

That homoerotic clown guy did kindof weird me out though...

0331 Happiness is a belt-fed weapon

I like pretty much every game I play, so I don't really see games as disappointing.

I agree with all of those, except Twilight Princess, since I never played it. A lot of those wouldn't make it in my top 10 though.

I am the Playstation Avenger.

FF7 isn't all that overrated. It's a great game. It's certainly not the best game, or even Final Fantasy, ever, but it's very, very good.

I often think people criticize Elder Scrolls and Zelda:TP because they feel cool doing so. Hipster gamers or something. Or maybe they just don't "get it", so they must be bad games. Either way, people should lay off. These are fine games, if they just aren't your thing, that doesn't make them bad.

And just to be a complete hypocrite, I'm going to state that I think no list of overrated games is complete without include Crono Trigger. 100% nostalgia, there. Not much going for it.

That's so weird, because Chrono Trigger still doesn't have nearly as much publicity as Final Fantasy or many other games.  It's highly rated, sure... but for good reason.  There were a handful of firsts that happened with Chrono Trigger.  It also has a very different story for its time, and even now it is pretty timeless.  To say it's all nostalgia and that it doesn't have much going for it definitely ignores how well the game was created.

Also, your argument for FF7 completely falls apart when you say Chrono Trigger should be in an overrated list.

1 Chrono Trigger SNES 1995 Role-Playing SquareSoft 0.28 0.00 2.02 0.01 2.31
1 Final Fantasy VII PS 1997 Role-Playing Sony Computer Entertainment 3.01 2.47 3.28 0.96 9.72

So if you look at the data, by what definition makes Chrono Trigger more overrated than FF7?
