Forums - General - Sex Objects: Why Women is more offensive than Men

It is kind of sad that people get more angry when their is female nudity as opposed to a male butt naked. And where I am from if I went and asked a girl for sex I would probably get the cops called on me for sexual harassment.

The moral of those two videos is that if you are a halfway decent looking woman you will have no problem getting laid.

I have to agree with this. Man have it harder in this regard. I'm not that good looking and I can't get laid, without resorting to hookers. It's kind of being a sad thing in my life. I would take it a step further and say even if  woman is a troll, they'd still be able to find some man like me that was desperate enough to get laid for free. A man has to work harder to get laid, unless you resort to hookers. So,those poor women boo freaking hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed (for the most part).. For my money, it all pretty much evens out in the end. Women may be portrayed as sex object far more than men, and men may undermine a woman's personality in favor of looks.. BUT the flip side of that is for women who WANT to get laid, they will have very little issue making that happen, even the women who may not be quite as good looking. They can also get more in life handed to them from the horny pervs..

Furthermore.. If a woman doesn't like the way she's being treated by a man and feels he is using her.. there is a simple solution. All she has to do is turn him down, and find someone who will love her for her personality. So I guess I don't see the big deal with that issue...

This feels weird to say for me, but I have a sister who is well.. erm... many guys would say she is blessed in the looks department. On the one hand these dudes kiss her ass, and she is handed many things like free drinks, an extra nod at a job, etc.. But the flip side of this is many of these dudes are creepers who she has to deal with in trying to get them off her case.

On the other hand, myself.. being a 27 year old, slightly overweight, somewhat nerdy dude.. obviously don't have to deal with the sexual exploitation thing and be pressured by society to look your best, but the flipside of that is I have to work much harder to get a chick's attention and spend my time alone FAR more than she does..

In other words, you take the good with the bad..

One of my favorite Youtubers made a video about how playing as a hot female in a MMORPGS gives you tons of benefits.  Really the only place females get screwed over on a regular basis is at car dealerships but they can solve that by just bringing their siginificant other along when they want to buy a car.

Its annoying how guys act around girls online in general.  Example being Xbox Live/PSN.  You can be playing and everybody is acting all normal but then a girl enters the room and everybody changes.  Usually in three different ways.

Guy 1:  Acts like a sexist asshole
Guy 2: Sucks up to the girl and treats her like a flower
Guy 3: Flirts with her the entire time and asks what she looks like

All three are annoying.

I think that both sides play a part in the reaction and it also varies on the audience of whatever game or media you're using.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

You expect a lot out of very intelligent and sexual monkies we are still animals.

Yeah i do expect a lot out of people in general.  Im sorry if you are a sexual monkey though.

We all have options in life and blaming things (Including biology) will get you no where.  Control yourself, mentally and physically, you do have the choice.  Anything else is just excuses.

Why "blaming" biology? The ecologically correct attitude would be to thank and give it due credit for our nice animal instinct!    So if male sexual instinct is so tied to visual stimulation, be it and thank you, mother Nature!

Oh this will probably go off topic completely but I'll get into the subject a little bit.

I am not trying to play the perfect guy here.  I'm simply writing down my opinion on why I think portraying women as sex objects is more offensive than men.  It's what I truly believe though I'll admit that it is only an opinion and I could be completely wrong.

As for biology, yes we are all sexually active, but we also have something called self control.  We are not apes.  And while yes I admit that I've went out with women based primarily off of them being gorgeous, i can also say they for the most part have completely bored me with a lack of personality.  And while sex is something that is enjoyable i can personally say that it can also be boring with the wrong person regardless of how she looks.  An emotional connection is something that trumps looks in my opinion.  Here recently I've been more bored with women in my area than ever (I live in a small town).

What I am trying to say is that personality is very important.  A girl can be pretty but Im not going to want to sleep with her unless I have a connection with her either.  I know this answer will vary from guy to guy, but i personally want something more emotional.  I dont think that is an "Ape" like characteristic.

Oh, this is what troubles you! Well, I'm quite lucky, while I hadn't many girlfriends, I had the luck to find not only gorgeous, but very intelligent, deep and interesting ones. The few that were just hot didn't last very much as my GF. But hey, this doesn't deny my animal side, after all apes are very intelligent animals!

The thing is you don't hear about the people who are not offended speaking up and smaller issue's can tend to get blown out of proportion.
That said women definitely get the short end of the stick when it comes to video game's with way too many female characters designed to appeal to men rather than being interesting fleshed out characters in their own right.
Now where I disagree with some critics is when it come's to the motivation for game developers making games oriented the way being about sexist attitudes. The game industry is first and foremost a business and the developers have been making billions by appealing to the male demographic and are adverse to making game's for women when the expected returns are uncertain.
Sure as more and more women are seen buying and playing games more and more developers are taking creating more fleshed out and realistic female characters.
Change is slow but surely happening and i hope to see more and more women in mainstream gaming.

PS: While I think most games would benefit from more realistic and fleshed out female characters it's fine to have some game's like Dragon's Crown that are clearly oriented towards men, just be honest about what it is.

This is the Game of Thrones

Where you either win

or you DIE

It just comes down to men and women looking for different things in partners...

Yes, men look primarily for beauty. This is not a conspiracy by a patriarchy or shallow men, it's biology.

Women desire looks to some extent, but the main concern is the ability to provide resources and safety. This can also be explained by evolutionary psychology.

Simple proof of this for any guy in here ... let's say I present you with an attractive woman and I ask if you would date her, but I also tell you that she has been working at McDonald's for the last 5 years, has no degree, barely finished high school, and has zero ambition.

Chances are most men would still date her even though, if sexes were reversed, she would be called a loser. Men are interested in beauty, on average, and not in the provision of resources (men are socially expected to be providers themselves).

For women, if I presented you with a man that is ripped, can bench 300 lbs without breaking a sweat, and looks like he belongs on the cover of a romance novel ... but then I also tell you that he works at Mcdonalds for the last 5 years, has no degree, barely finished high school, and has zero ambition.

Chances are most women would not date him. They might have a fling, but this type of man can barely afford to provide for himself let alone a family. He drops a great number of points in overall attractiveness for women by virtue of this fact alone while a man really would not care, on average that is. A woman of any reasonable attractiveness would pass this guy up for a much less attractive, but far more successful lawyer, doctor, ect.

This is the way things are for many people. There are exceptions, but this is just a natural result of evolution and humans being a sexually dimorphic species.

Look at this in your own relationships. Ask yourself honestly if you think your partner would date you if your situations were reversed.

Not to go into too much detail, but I currently have a decent part time job, and, in less than a year, a master's degree. I am good with my money, and my career outlook looks optimistic. My girlfriend, on the other hand, has an art degree that took her nearly 7 years to obtain. She works a semi full time job that makes just barely above minimum wage. If it was her on the verge of getting a master's degree and me struggling to work a menial semi full time job ... I don't think she would be quite as interested in me, and we may never have started dating in the first place. Yes, relationships are more complicated than this, but when you first start dating someone, men and women are looking for these things ... it is just natural whether they are aware of it or not.

Patriarchy, feminism, and elaborate conspiracys did not cause this current state of affairs ... it was just evolution. The fact that we can become aware of this dynamic, however, gives us the ability to change things if we so desire ... unlike the rest of the animal kingdom.
