Forums - Sony - UPDATE: Killzone: Mercenary Currently a 78 On Metacritic (Not a 77)

Are You Picking Up Killzone for Vita?

Day 1 69 33.82%

This Year 41 20.10%

Maybe Next Year 30 14.71%

Not For Me 64 31.37%

I wonder if this thread would have been made if it was 85+.

Even then, common sense should come into play. No matter what Sony or anyone tries to tell you, a handheld will not give you the exact level of experience a console will.

That should be obvious.

I agree, but the way Sony and devs have approached the Vita generally seems to shoot for this unattainable goal.

So...I aim my arrow at the bullseye worth 10pts, I say I'm gonna hit 10pts but you and I both know I'm only capable of hitting 8 on a good day no matter how many times I've said I could hit 10 and boast I can...If we both know this, why are we surprise when I do hit the 8 as predicted?

Surely the smart move would be to ignore my boasts and expect an 8 each an every time?

I guess I'm just not getting this because to me, it sounds like if Sony's PR told everyone that the sky was filled with onions and a unicorn farting out rainbows, we should believe them regardless of the fact that we can see for ourselves that isn't true.

If you are going to criticise a game, criticise it because you think it's not good in its own right, not because it's not good when compared to a console counterpart. that is just stupid.

I get where you're coming from.  But even if people come to expect Vita to hit an 8, as you say, they're unlikely to it consider it as good as a 10. That's the drawback of making console-type games for a handheld, people will apply the same standards to games of the same style, regardless of whether it's realistic to expect as such.

More handheld-styled game sidestep this by fulfilling different criteria, making an unfavourable direct comparison less likely.

So...why's everyone complaining about the indie resurgance on the Vita?

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

Reviewers still didn't learn to rate Handheld Games right. Always comparing it to Home Consoles versions and similar games. Id**ts. It's really one of the few Handheld FPS done right by the looks of it. Credit where credit is due.

Is there seriously no Killzone: Mercenary discussion thread?

Whatever, just got the game and I'm downloading the patch right now. You better bring some friggin' time. I have 50 Mbit/s, but that sucker still needs over an hour. -_-

Anyways, I had a hell lot of fun with the beta, so I have no doubt that the full game will kick ass. Oh, I don't care about scores btw.

People are complaining about that? I wasn't aware of that.

Maybe they just feel (as I do for instance) that Indie games are generally inferior to non-Indie ones and hence not an acceptable subsitute?

I'm gonna argue that people will always find something to complain about when there's really nothing.

I brought up the indie point because it's exactly the same thing as a handheld experience. It's short and pick up and playable and there's even the added bonus of it mostly being cheap.

Speaking of cheap and people finding things to complain about, I've seen people complain about "Into the Nexus" being charged at a lower price point...how the hell are you going to complain about a game you are interested in not asking you for £40/$60?!

In summary, I argue that people find things to complain about then use it to make a very big deal.

Not bad....I´m not into shooters....at all...but I will get a Vita soon (that Mega Pack is 170 freaking Euros on Amazon)...probably down the line
Does it run at native Resolution or is is upscaled like Uncharted ?

I'm already playing it. I think the score is ok. It's a very nice looking, competent FPS. Which is actually a big achievement on a portable console. If you compare it to the big guys on household consoles it's just average.

The thing is, that the biggest games on the Vita are being made by B-Teams, which are very competent devs, but they just lack the talent and originality of the Triple A teams. The exceptions are Gravity Rush and maybe Tearaway.

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
1. Super Mario Odyssey

People generalize games like that?  Wow, that's kind of ... yeah.  Personally, I don't give a rat's rear-end about the size of the developer, I'm going to judge a game based on the game itself.  The very idea of favoring something like Fuse, Deadpool, or Lost Planet 3 because they come from a big publisher makes no sense to me.  I'll take Rime, ResoGun, and Transistor.
