You do need to take into consideration the fact that gaming is much more mainstream now though. Wii Sports and Wii being a big phenomenon with people not traditiaonlly "Gamers", was a big part of those sales. The NES sold 3 or more times what Atari or any other competitor was selling in the 80s, and it did it at a time when gaming was not mainstream, and it was something considered "for kids or nerds who never grew up". Taken in that context, Super Mario Bros. got popular in a much more harsh environment/market.
Most, if not all of the Wii games. Primarily Wii Sports.
If you don't choose this, you are only kidding yourself.
something on wii
wii sports, wii fit or mario kart. well, i think wii sports or wii fit and not mario kart even with enormous sales.

Between Wii Fit and Mario Kart which would you pick? Both pushed large amounts of Wii systems. I'd lean towards Mario Kart if it came down to those two, personally.

i know many peope who bought a wii because of wii fit and those who bought a wii and mario kart just bought a wii but not extra for mario kart and more for the whole library of "fun games" so i think wii fit but my personal experience can be pretty different to the rest of the world.
For franchises? Mario/Halo in homeconsoles and Pokemon in handhelds.
As per games? Wii Sports/Wii Fit/Mario Kart Wii/New Super Mario Bros Wii.
Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever
Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe
Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor
Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

I feel like Halo has lost its status as a system seller. The fervent fan base that drove sales for the 360 launch has moved on to CoD, a multi-platform game. In fact, most all of the biggest titles are now multi-platform.
I'm on the fence about Mario. Galaxy was good, but 3DWorld doesn't look like a must-have kind of game. Smash and Mario Kart may yet be the WiiU's big movers, and they won't be here for a while yet.
Obviously, Wii Sports was the biggest system seller ever, but one franchises that really moves systems would have to be Pokemon. I'll certainly be watching those 3DS sales this year. And that Skylander-ish Pokemon game might just be big, too.

Very good points. I guess my determinating factor was sales. I could agree with you though.
